Great bank, great people - could use fresher middle and top management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Banco Itaú full-time

ProsGood compensation, great work environment, strong investment in their people. A lot of opportunity to tackle new positions, move around business units and gain experience in the overall business.

ConsThe main challenge is with top and some middle management, who seem too set in their ways and kinda tired. An infusion of fresh, young talent up the top would do much good to the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart to reinvent the business now, before it's a question of survival - once it gets there, it'll be too late to reinvent it.

Tiring and little opportunity for development

Senior Business Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at Banco Itaú full-time for more than a year

ProsOne of the best salaries on the market;

ConsRidiculously bureaucratic;
Incompetent Executives;
Lots of unqualified employees that are kept due to union;
Strongly subjective meritocracy;

Advice to Senior ManagementWhile the same executives stays in control, the bank will still be ridiculous. The only thing that saves you in the fact that is a very protected market. Let's just hope that this doesn't change in near future, for your sake...

Credit Risk Modeling (HQ), it's great

Intern (Former Employee)
São Paulo, São Paulo (Brazil)

I worked at Banco Itaú as an intern for less than a year

ProsAwesome people, lots of stimulus for learning stuff (you often got paid to watch academic presentations), good salary with lots of benefits. Hours are OK depending on what exactly you do. People got promoted a lot. Management was great.

ConsIt took a reeeally long time for people to reach management roles. Most managers were folks who went through the bank's "trainee" program and, afterwards, worked as analysts for 8-10 years. That's understandable since the company's so huge.

Good place to start your career, but not so good to get promoted

Project Management Intern (Current Employee)
São Paulo, São Paulo (Brazil)

I have been working at Banco Itaú as an intern for more than a year

ProsChallenging corporative environment which makes you get in touch with all sorts of people. One of the best internship programs, with an extense range of courses.

ConsOld employees usually oppose to innovation-based solution to the challenges the bank faces, which could make you work hard to get few results.

Advice to Senior ManagementItaú is a huge banking, which makes communication between different areas a real challenge. Having a boss with great communication skill could help his team to archive more goals

Great company!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Banco Itaú full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLots of challenges and growth opportunities. VP's were visionaires and young managers full of energy!! You can always move around and the business units have a lot of flexibility!

Consoutdated middle management. Superintendent were not up to the challenge and directors were getting old. Company could benefit a lot from a flatter structure!
