    Pros

You will have great perks (discount) and well-educated training. Many people do great services for our guests. You will learn tons of things here.

    Cons

Some of employees are not native speakers but many of them understand how difficult to sell products by second language. They will teach you kindly and also guests are nice!

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good discount across gap inc stores, nice clothes. Some service leaders can be nicer than others, generally nice and understanding people.

    Cons

Leadership team come off as friendly and helpful but can be inefficient when you really need help with something. Scheduling is too unpreditable and gives very little time in advance so it's impossible to plan anything else in your life, beause you don't know if you'll be working on Sunday until Wednesday night. They require two weeks in advance to book your off days, shouldn't employees also get noticed at least a week in advance whether they'd be working or not? This kind of scheduling only works for people who solely work in retail or have a lot of time, if you are also in school or working on something else then this is not a good part time job for you

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give out schedules sooner so employees can plan their weeks better

    Pros

First of all, the discount is great. It is fun working for a company that is on-trend but also is effortlessly Classic.

    Cons

Working retail in a mall setting has its obvious challenges- when it's busy, it's BUSY. People get crazy in the malls especially nearing the holidays. But it comes with the territory.

Poor Scheduling, Not Worth the Discount

    • Career Opportunities
Former Employee - Sales Support in Toronto, ON
Former Employee - Sales Support in Toronto, ON

I worked at Banana Republic part-time

    Pros

Co-workers are generally good people, but at time it could feel like you're back in high school again.

    Cons

Managers tend to play favourites-if you fall out of their good graces, expect to be scheduled less and pushed to do more. Also, since managers appear to be polite, they have a way with their backhanded compliments.

They have a company policy of scheduling every week on Wednesday evening (practically Thursday) for a work week that begins on a Sunday. This leads to your employees getting 2-3 day notice of their schedule for Sunday. It's unbearable even for a minimum wage job!

Time off policy seems okay at first until you realize that after you book some time off, they will almost never schedule you the week after you come back.

Discount not that great at 50% off when they constantly have 40% off regular price.

Zero upward mobility. And even if you do get promoted, the salary increase is only $1-$2 more per hour but massive amount of pressure and resposibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees will constantly ask themselves why they need to be loyal to a company that does this type of scheduling when many other competitors schedule at least TWO WEEK AHEAD!
