Good overall experience not much fun or excitement.

Network Engineer (Former Employee)
Ipswich, England (UK)

I worked at BT full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGood working conditions, good work life balance. Many great people. Experience at one of the biggest ISPs.

ConsNot much perspective to progress. Very limited access to information or flexibility to let you discover anything beyond your own desk. Lots of force fed meaningless esoteric management theories . Hideous political intricacies at mid-management level.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore power and involvement to the people at lower levels. Simplify processes and align information flows with processes.

Good structure internship

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Ipswich, England (UK)

I worked at BT as an intern for less than a year

ProsGood structured career progression for graduates on the graduate scheme. Some interesting work if you are in the right areas. Good friendly environment and nice campus at Adastral park.

ConsI got the impression that some of the technical research areas are not valued so much by the company. In the area I worked in funding seemed low and some basics were not provided which employees had been asking for for a long time.

inwardly focused and poorly directed in ever decreasing circles

ICT Sales Specialist (Current Employee)
Leeds, England (UK)

I have been working at BT full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood at downsizing whilst maintaining shareholder value. Some good people to work with. Some divisions are better than others so choose carefully.

ConsVery poor management with a lack of vision. Took a lot of rejects from CWC and the BT Business Division is suffering the very same fate as a result. Very little customer focus and even less innovation. Very little support for personal development.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo point, everyone is too wrapped up in their own fear to listen to anyone other than their line manager.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

toxic culture

General Manager (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at BT full-time for more than 7 years

Prossome potential still to move around the business for personal development. Very knowledgeable colleagues who tend to support one another very well.

Consbullying and pressure to achieve managed exit targets seen as most important part of leadership roles. Salaries not competitive. The bureaucracy to get things done is draining despite constant comms around making things simpler.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are creating an oppressive and stifling place to work. Stop the bullying and trust your managers and people to do the right things.

Business Development Intern (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at BT as an intern for less than a year

ProsGood lifestyle, decent work times, great city, brand name, experience working in a large company

ConsBad employee management, fragmented teams, extremely bureaucratic, no sense of direction from managers, managers unavailable for learning opps, company closed for initiative - no initiative is encouraged., takes to have technology fixed (strange, since they are a telecom company)!

Challenging and interesting roles do exist, but cultural problems associated with size

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at BT full-time for more than a year

ProsGiven opportunities to stretch yourself, operate at significant scale.

ConsProblems inherent in very large organisations - communication and bureaucracy.

Advice to Senior ManagementRapid pace of different initiatives can lead to a lack of engagement with staff.
