San Francisco, CA (US)

Former Employee – worked at Avis Budget full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat team of experienced personnel. Half-decent pay, and the car benefits were very handy when fuel costs start to skyrocket. Lots of fun and useful vehicles to drive.

ConsLack of support for growth or maintenance of market share. Unrealistic goals and inconsistent accountability. Myopic focus on counter sales at the expense of almost everything else, including operations.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis business has low profit margins and most customers (and employees) are unhappy. Try harder to make the employees happy, and they will make the customers happy aka Southwest Airlines

New York, NY (US)

Former Employee – worked at Avis Budget full-time for less than a year

Prospay in NYC is about 9.75 hr plus commission which can range from 300-2000 per mth if youre really, really good at selling.
ample training which really helps in selling
really great people to work with, very helpful and kind

Conshigher management, not the location managers, can be shockingly unprofessional
I was once told by an agent that in this company, if a co-worker complains to upper management about you even if the accusation or complaint is unfair or untrue, they will tell you nothing about it and then fire you one fine day out of the blue with no explanation as to why. Wow!

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn some HR skills. You really need them. You are not better than the rental agents. Listen to employee concerns and dont take sides. Be neutral and fair.

Buffalo, NY (US)

Current Employee – been working at Avis Budget full-time for less than a year

Prosfull-time positions almost always available
will hire almost anyone who can pass a urinalysis
do not need a degree of any sort
some great people work for Avis
easiest job

Consthe company does not value their employees
little to no recognition for hard work (or poor work)
low pay
located in airports usually, probably home to the grouchiest people in the universe

Advice to Senior ManagementReward those who work hard, punish those who do not. Smile.

Current Employee – been working at Avis Budget full-time for more than 7 years

ProsSound family oriented company. Outstanding employees with diverse backgrounds. Great benefits. Majority of senior leaders are strong with good character.

ConsNo accountability back to employees. Goals (tied to bonuses) delivered consistently 4-6 months late. Perception far more important to senior manager of local market than reality. Totally self absorbed narcissus skilled at creating master illusion. Beautiful paint on the shell but egg is rotten.

Advice to Senior ManagementRolling pride spending huge $$$$$$ while money to develop customers and pay bonuses are stripped. Las Vegas penthouse suites and Hawaii....really? Accountability and respect is just as important back to the employee.

Current Employee – been working at Avis Budget full-time for more than 7 years

ProsBenefit package/costs. Apparent stability in the company's financial status.

ConsLack of true path for advancement for entire company across divisional lines. Divisional leadership (director level) too autocratic, not cohesive. Lack of fair and un-biased job posting and hiring practices across divisional lines.

Lack of timely communication of goals from senior management to sales staff for bonus pay levels. (Who announces yearly goals after the year has begun?)

Continual moving target for sales staff who are trying to achieve bonus pay levels. (Again, changes are communicated after year begins, sales staff have to "catch up" - or miss goals! )

Advice to Senior Management#1) Establish long-term expectations for sales staff. Year to year goals are very short sighted.

#2) Recommend senior management/human resources establish a standard path for advancing that is accessible to all levels of personnel in the company. Many times job postings are not visible - unless you know someone. Many times job postings are already filled - even though the "posting and interviewing process" proceeds or occurs weeks after a posting expires. Many positions are pre-determined (even though the interviewing process proceeds). Promotions occur many times with candidates who move across the country for a new position - when a very qualified candidate resides in the location that has the opening! Where is the corporate oversight for moving expenses/reasonableness? Why would a very qualified candidate already residing in a city with an opening be passed over? Why would management want to pay moving expenses when not necessary?

Another FISCAL Question:
How long is the Rolling Pride going to last and what is it costing? Is that really a prudent use of resources and a wise expense? Is it really building morale when the "team" really is not on the bus?

There are too many instances of who you know - not what you know or how well you perform in your position - that result in promotions and other perks....

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
