Current Employee – been working at AutoZone full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Fairly secure
Most software engineers there are a pleasure to work with
Cons – Pay does not seem to be up to the market (at least, before the generally nice bonus), and merit increases tend to be fairly stingy.
Advice to Senior Management – When you claim innovation as a core value, actually value innovation instead of stifling it. One suggestion: take a look at Google's 20% free innovation time program and implement something similar.

Former Employee – worked at AutoZone full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – The 20% discount is very handy especially with todays economy. Meeting new people as well as being able to provide service to customers that sometimes are unable to do it themselves.
Cons – Variable hours, sometimes 40 and other times 30 for full timers. Lack of respect from other employees as well as some upper management. Teamwork is minimal on a regular bases. Pay raises should be based on time as well as knowledge. Flexibility of scheduling with an employee who holds two jobs to make ends meet. After seven years no chance to advance even after talking to D.M.
Advice to Senior Management – Take more time to get to know those who work under you.

Former Employee – worked at AutoZone part-time for more than a year
Pros – I liked helping people with their automotive needs
Cons – Terrible pay, showing your hard work never pays off, you get used by management. There was a time when I worked there that a new guy was hired and almost instantly promoted to a manager because he speaks Spanish. I had to teach him his job while he's my boss What kind of place does that? I have nearly two years experience on him. Don't work here.
Advice to Senior Management – Appreciate your employees. Offer financial incentives to hard workers! Offer a commission on parts that you work so hard to push on the customers!
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at AutoZone full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Helping customers
Z net was best thing AutoZone did in the 14 years I was there.
Cons – Selling extra stuff customers don't need. Big push to sell you don't want to be on the bottom. Five times A week you have to be on one call or another. With the hours we get this leave store short.
Advice to Senior Management – Get back to customer service and don't worry about all the reports. Do we need five conference calls a week?
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
