I worked at Artesian Resources full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The Benefits use to be above average, and the pay depends on if you are a family or friend of those in charge. If you are in the 'liked' group, you'll have no problem with time off, etc. Sr. Managers and executives are well taken care of, hence why nobody in the protected class ever leaves.

    Cons

I worked for Artesian for over 7 years and was exposed to the worse office politics ever experienced -- most of it coming from the HR Department! Little chance for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the HR Department and try to grow a great company culture.

    Pros

Great benefits package, except for education. A good work life balance is possible if you don't let yourself get over committed. Pay is on par for the area.

    Cons

Very incestuous and rife with petty politics. Friends and family of executives are hired with out giving anyone already in the company a chance to advance. The only way to get a promotion is for some one else to leave, and be a favorite. Merit is not a consideration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay attention to what people do, not what they say,

Good pay, but at a heavy personal cost

    I worked at Artesian Resources

    Pros

The company generally pays better than most local employers. They have a swimming pool. Their office building is very upscale, with fountains inside, some of which have fish. Executives get big offices and are treated like royalty, with bonuses and stock options.

    Cons

The company relies heavily on nepotism. Family members and friends of the executives are hired regularly and placed in poitions without regard to skills, education or qualifications. The majority of the executives have no understanding of how to manage and deal with people. The human resources department openly operates with bias and manages through intimidation and manipulation. Many years ago the company was thought to be a great place to work. Former employees now seem to generally agree that the firm lost its way. Rank and file employees are generally treated like dirt unless they are family members.
