    Pros

Incredibly intelligent colleagues, good compensation, good location, great products that make you proud to work there.

    Cons

Limited upward mobility in Canada, expectation that staff who really want to grow will move to California head office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up, loved the place.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Amazing place to learn business
    - Outstanding values and culture
    - Good opportunities and encouraging management
    - Excellent Benefits and work-life balance

    Cons

Change is in the air and management doesn't hold much control over it. Stagnancy can seep in real soon if individual doesn't take charge of his/her own career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Have a defined plan and share with the employees.
    - More communication needed to keep boosting morale

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Amgen is a high science biotechnology company with outstanding marketed products and a robust pipeline.

    Cons

As all companies grow larger, there are challenges with bureaucracy and decision-making processes. The optics of all decisions are viewed through too many lenses. It appears that stock price became more important than talent retention. The current restructuring has resulted in the exodus of great talent and expertise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It may be wise to hedge your future success on talent and expertise rather than restructuring and reducing the work-force in an effort to increase stock price

Good experience, but very politically charged environment

    I worked at Amgen

    Pros

If you were in siloed business units, you had a great experience because the team was focused on doing well.

    Cons

There was a very politically charged environment, much more political than I had expected. The company is also going through a restructuring process which is difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions and perks should be done more tactfully.

    Pros

Benefits, pay, culture, professionalism. Some of the best time off of any company in the biotechnology industry.

    Cons

Unstable environment at the present. Probability of moving most manufacturing operations overseas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The bottom line is not the only thing that makes a company great. People are the lifeblood.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Stimulating environment. Many technical challenges with the resources and authority to solve them. Line management is supportive and encouraging.

    Cons

Not the most nimble company, and the IS infrastructure is difficult to work with. Many competing priorities often present resource challenges that are not accounted for in deliverable timelines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    None.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn different areas of biotech and observe leadership styles. Benefits and pay are top notch. The environment is competitive and fast paced.

    Cons

Lots of changes in 2014 continuing into 2015 so this could affect staff morale. Change is a fact of life though, so if you're willing to work through some tough times, you'll learn a lot from Amgen. With less staff around, the workload will increase but this means opportunity for people willing to do and try new things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be wary of staff who compete to get ahead instead of competing to make Amgen better. There is an element of art in the scientific discovery world, too much competition drives away the innovative thinking and artist that are needed to do keep the company at the cutting edge.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits, nice people, and competitive pay. Strong pipeline with some very exciting drugs on the way. Amazing sence of pride producing life changing medications for patients in need.

    Cons

Not much job security, constant restructures make for a stressful work environment. Absolutly no tolerance for mistakes. Management expects nothing less than perfection. Moving profitable drugs overseas for tax breaks and reducing staff in US.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More face time and listen to your staffs opinions.
