I have been working at Amgen

    Pros

Generous time off policy, including 2 one week shutdowns; great work-life balance and telecommuting options; good benefits; work with a smart group of people; the pros outweigh the cons and have kept me from looking for other jobs

    Cons

limited opportunities for promotion; people can be title-centric rather than recognizing the contributions people can make regardless of their title

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop and breathe--celebrate success; let reorgs sink in a bit before you move on to the next thing

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay, Good benefits, Smart people, Nice work environment
    Great geographical location.
Opportunities to advance but not as many as there use to be
They encourage personal growth but it depends heavily on the support of your Report To

    Cons

Demanding, very fast-pace, satisfaction and growth very dependent on what department you work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the employees at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to pay increases, opportunities to advance, and recognition

    I worked at Amgen

    Pros

Values and people are great, when focused on the science and the patients. Learned a lot.

    Cons

Like too many companies that get to such a size, there is dead weight and great talent, and the latest RIF really didn't distinguish between the two.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Amgen full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Amgen is a larger company which allows for job advancement. In my group work/life balance was very good. The IT group is large, so you can have exposure to very large Enterprise systems.

    Cons

The IT group is quite large, which adds quite a bit of bureaucracy. They outsource and hire far too many contractors to be as effective as they could be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If a contractor has been with the company for 2-3+ year, you should Do-The-Right-Thing and make them an FTE.
