The technology professionals were both talented and people I sincerely enjoyed working with on a daily basis.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Akin Gump full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood pay, good management, willingness to buy tools required to complete projects.

ConsAs they got bigger and influence shifted from the DC and Texas offices to the NY office, I felt they put partner compensation above all else. Traditionally they had focused on development and appreciation of both staff and attorneys. Obviously, attracting and retaining the top attorneys is key to the success of any law form, but valuing staff is also important.

Great place to work with good management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Houston, TX (US)

I have been working at Akin Gump full-time for more than 5 years

ProsRelaxed work environment with good management. Great benefits and excellent training tools for any necessary jobs/tasks. Nice people to work with.

ConsRigid work schedule (not very flexible on hours). High stress environment. Nothing really else to say. Yes, you have to be able to meet deadlines and what-not, but heh, that's called having a JOB!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease news about the company flowing to the lower levels.

Good mid-market firm; "Frat" culture

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Akin Gump for less than a year

ProsGood opportunities for young associates, very diverse set of practice areas and realistic partnership prospects. DC office is great and very friendly.

ConsWork not top-shelf (though still very strong), bonuses are generally not as good as other firms. Office culture varies greatly by location.

This is not a place to work if you're planning on staying more than 3 years to repay student loans.

Attorney, 7th-Year (Current Employee)
Washington, DC (US)

I have been working at Akin Gump full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe salary is probably the best thing about the firm.

ConsEverything else; it's biglaw, and is probably no worse than any biglaw firm. But overall it is not a positive environment in which to grow as an attorney.

AG Review

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Akin Gump full-time

ProsSalary was good, staff are treated pretty well, better than a lot of other places. Houston office seems to be losing people pretty quickly.

ConsManagement lets attorneys with bad attitudes and demeanors do pretty much want they want, whatever it is the attorney is always right. This happens in several sections of the firm and it is not good for morale.
