I worked at Aflac (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, work from home, meet great new people. Company has many great philosophies. Many perks to life long agents. Good money to be made if you can survive the first few years.

    Cons

Lots of cold calling and driving all over the place to be told no. Market has been saturated with new agents each year and it is very hard for new agents starting out. Once you establish a customer base, it is a wonderful company with many benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on getting your new agents to a comfortable salary before tossing them into the shark pits alone. The market has been overly saturated for years and the same walk in and ask methodology destroys many new potentially great agents. Only the starving and overly pushy survive. Customer service comes in to play way too late in the game. New agents should be put on existing accounts and more seasoned agents should be casing the streets for new accounts.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's great in the sense that you get to make your own schedule and to decide which businesses you work with. You get what you put into your work.

    Cons

In the same vein, this is not a good job for those who aren't self-motivated. Also, dealing with rejection isn't for everyone. I know I personally had to adjust to it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go out into the field more often with agents, regardless of how long they've been working. This allows you to coach better and help develop them.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Tons of training and helpful people. Lots of incentives. Amazing financial compensation. Love my flexible work hours. I can work from home - or office. I was assigned 1 mentor - but have dozens. The online training information is outstanding. Tons of support & training information. FREE lead lists.

    Cons

LOSERS BEWARE!!! If you can not handle a fast environment - this is not the job for you. If you are not able to communicate with company owners intelligently - this is not the job for you. If you think someone else is going to do this job for you - this is not the job for you. Aflac expects hard workers - and pays their employees equally high incomes. Too many people think this job is going to pay them $100,000 yearly for a walk in the park. Building your own book of business is difficult at first - but the final compensation is worth the initial struggle. Too many people can't make it though the initial struggle then quit because they don't have the personal self motivation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When an employee starts provide them with a list of what resources are available. THERE ARE TONS - but a list for new employees would be helpful.

I worked at Aflac as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Recognition for hard work. Flexible work schedule, since it is essentially your own business. No need to choose between work and family.

    Cons

100% Commission, which is not a problem if you work hard. Some areas are visited more often by other agents, so do your research and be creative in your approach.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the family values Aflac is known for. Do not underestimate the value or your producers. Treat them well and everyone will be a success.

I have been working at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The benefits are great. The Sr managment is very employee focuses. Its a safe place to work because Aflac doesn't do layoffs and they hardly ever fire people.

    Cons

People never leave! which means there isn't a lot of room to move up in the company. Aflac is loyal to employees and expects the same level of loyalty in return. Tenure is more rewarded than job performance.

I worked at Aflac full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Freedom to work at your own pace. Good recognition of superior sales performance.

    Cons

No leadership, everyone is out to help themselves. No real (helpful) training, you're expected to pound the pavement every day, constantly making cold calls. Even employees who had been there for years complained about how little (money) they made. Not a great place to work, period.

    world of opportunity

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Aflac

    Pros

The ability to control your own future. If you have the drive this is a position where your financial goals can be achieved.

    Cons

as an independent agent you work on full commission. If you are not independently motivated this will be a struggle for you. Sales is not a position for everyone, but with determination you can be successful. There is a lot of turnover and many agents are working off similar call lists. Your skills have to be that much sharper because of the agents that have contacted potential clients previously and often.

I worked at Aflac as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

No need to go to the office

    Cons

It's a pyramid scheme, there are no base salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The lack of continuity is a problem - often the same companies with be pitched multiple times by various agents, all without the awareness that someone has been there before them. It doesn't inspire much confidence from your would-be clients.
