    Pros

Awesome Knowledge of Hardware, Great training, Friendly Staff, Excellent Selection, Management very attentive

    Cons

May not be able to move with the times. Technologically slow, and long to catch on to the digital revolution. The employee culture is a bit bland/ still friendly though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you do.

  7.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, generally felt my hard work was appreciated, my store had excellent customer service.

    Cons

Pay was low (but it was only a summer job, so what should I expect), one manager accused me of sneaking out and not working when I had been working the whole time. Overall, it was pretty positive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more and trust more to those that have earned it.

I have been working at Ace Hardware full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Everything you learn at ACE will be useful the rest of your life. Look at it as a course in home maintenance and they pay you! Can be a fast paced environment during peak hours. Everyday is a little bit different. Flexible schedule that is accommodating of school schedules.

    Cons

-Difficult customers sometimes make it painful, although the majority are good.
-Pay Not that great, it is retail so that shouldn't be a surprise
-Hours are bad, almost never get weekends or holidays off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A rotating schedule with two alternating crews to allow weekends off would be a huge moral boost. More opportunities to advance exceptional team members with additional training and positions.

I have been working at Ace Hardware part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Family feel, flex hours, meaningful relationships with customers, managers, and coworkers, great place to learn the basics about business, shorter store hours than other places, managers are great to the workers, sometimes we have fun at work.

    Cons

Lowest pay rates in retail, Ace considers clicking through video after video good training, no quality time with ownership and corporate staff, store managers often treated poorly by owners - so no one wants to be a manager, too much time counting inventory - not enough time making sure we have the right product or help customers, our Ace seems to be struggling to keep up with the times, owners sometimes seem more involved in their personal lives than their business!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be stuck in the past, let the people in the store run the store, need to be open longer hours to compete with internet and other retail stores, need modern products.

I have been working at Ace Hardware full-time

    Pros

The local nature of my store was nice. We had some freedoms to do and work as we pleased, but that was dependent on the manager.

    Cons

Pay is horrible, and raises could only be asked for once a year. We are expected to deliver A service for D wages, but that is retail.
