    Pros

Gain knowledge of hardware and tools. Constantly solving problems for people that never get boring.

    Cons

Very cluttered back stock. In the particular chain I worked for "Frattallone's Ace Hardware" the Frattallones are terrible people, constantly yelling at workers, never giving raises or benefits. Terrible wage starting at minimum with no chance for a raise even if you have worked for a year. Managers take advantage of benefits and bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review the Frattallone's Ace Hardware stores. Review what the Frattallones are like and how they treat their employers. Managers take advantage of their bonuses.

    Pros

they work around your school schedule, and try to give you all the days off you asked for. which is great.

    Cons

you have to beg for a review, and before you finally get one they get a new manager and you have to wait another 90 days so they are able to give you one. its kinda ridiculous

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. They where a pleasure to work with and very empathetic. I had learned allot from everyone.

    Cons

None, the business for a mom and pop operation is excellent. In comparison to other companies in the area, this is none.

Customer Service- Cashier - old part time job in high school. Mainly worked the floor and occasionally cashiered.

    Pros

Flexible management - wide range of issues to solve - helping guests truly get what they want and solving issues. The pay rate was fair also.

    Cons

There were not many Cons that come to mind. occasionally unloading the trucks was a real pain but you'll get that in anywhere. When I was there I was confused about very few issues.

    Pros

The people there know what they're talking about, young active kids work there, but there is not much to say that's good about this store

    Cons

impatient employees, management doesn't care about their customers from what it seems. New faces every time i go in to the store. Not the most helpful store by a long shot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop mistreating and having good employees leave, every time i come in there are new people working there. I don't know what goes on, employees tell me they don't even like it.

    Pros

    great people and nice store

    Cons

schedule that does not work with any kind of family life, quit providing any kind of health insurance after they hired me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

rotate schedule around so everyone gets a chance to have a day of with their spouse once and a while. rotate times so they get to have dinner with the family a couple of times a week. you will never be able to keep good people unless you work it out so they can have time with the family to have dinner or go to a game even just once a month.

Current Employee - Sales Floor Associate in Nesconset, NY (US)

    Pros

-Knows it can't compete price wise against Lowe's or Home Depot so tries to enforce customer service.
    - Typically small stores so easy to learn what is it offers or not

    Cons

    - Need more training on products, if the main reason people come to Ace is for the help
    - Since the store I worked at was family owned, management sometimes really deserve to have the position they had and would take advantage of it. I don't know if this issue applies to other stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need some home improvement advice section in store or a special consultant to work in store to help with daily home improvement projects.
