    I have been working at Vinson & Elkins full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    In what seems to be very good financial shape. Did not lay off employees when the market was down. Good benefits package.

    Cons

    Raises are not based on merit. max raise this year was 1.5%. Don't adjust for living wages. Run all operations as if the offices around the country are the exact same as the Houston office. Have continuously cut more and more from the employees year after year while the partners make a record bonus. Management does not listen to nor communicated well with staff instead tell them how it is and talk down to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Open your eyes and listen to the employees. Moral is low and has been for years now and no one seems to notice. The cost of living is going up in places outside of Houston so maybe you want to compensate those that have been loyal and work hard for your company.

    I applied online – interviewed at Vinson & Elkins in July 2014.

    Interview Details

    Initial interview (for VS)
     admin and head of trainees -relatively informal and relaxed, 20-30 minutes. Mini presentation to prep -straight forward, though some level of law and commercial awareness crucial. A few questions on the presentation and also general questions -nothing too shocking/difficult.
    -got the VS.

    Second interview (for TC)
    still the relaxed style
    Associate and head of trainees
    Run through of the report/answer you had to complete during the week
    Try to approach from a different angle
    Explain your points thoroughly and use supporting sources
    General chat about the week

    Didn't get TC but was close I think.
