Picture yourself here.
Founded in 2004 and profitable since 2008, Tagged is an established start-up. We work with a sense of purpose instead of obligation. We’re passionate about our users and focused on innovating and creating only the best experiences for them, every single day.
We love our city.
San Francisco is a flourishing hub for technology and culture. Our local community is made up of some of the brightest minds around the world. We’re located on the Embarcadero, volunteer all over the Bay Area, and come up with our most brilliant ideas at our local pub next door.
Body and Mind.
We demand excellence from ourselves. We also encourage each other to maintain balance and enjoy the journey. Tagged offers on-site yoga and massage therapy, and access to a premiere gym around the corner from Tagged HQ.
Food is an integral part of our culture. We have lunch and dinners catered in daily and keep a fully stocked kitchen for the hours in between. To keep our food culture thriving and evolving, Tagged team members submit "foodback" (food feedback) regarding all things food that's published in a weekly Team newsletter.
Tagged operates in small teams, which allows us to act decisively and move quickly. Politics have no place here. Honesty, transparency and trust flourish. We are data-driven, but common sense guides us.

I worked at TaggedPros
The company has a lot of great, motivated, and smart people working for them. The perks and culture are unparalleled, and you will have an enjoyable day at work.Cons
The culture is a shell-game designed to mask a lot of structural management issues. Company shifts direction half-heartedly with extreme frequency. Management cannot seem to stick with a decision once it has been made.

- Application Details
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Tagged.Interview Details
Two interviews and then an all day in person.
I was contacted by a recruited about this position. The recruiter was one of the most talented I have ever interacted with.
The first in was pretty smooth. The interviewer asked standard questions. The only thing of note was the question to compare and contrast Discriminative and Generative models.
The second interview was a bit of a technical follow up where I was intended to walk through a standard problem with a current Data Scientist. The problem was pitched like a standard SQL problem but it is clearly something that could not be answered. The features would not be adequate for the desired outcome. We then spent the rest of the time talking about how to get better features.
I was then flown to San Fran for the in person interview. The first step was to give a talk which I did on something out of my field but that they told me they were interested in. The follow up questioning was intense and the manager was quite aggressive with a employee that agreed with me about a particular subject. I then met for a one on one with each of the panel members. In the course of this I basically decided I would never work at Tagged and now understood why they were offering me 20% over market. One interviewer told me that he did nothing but code. He had no free time and read coding books on the weekend. Another did not understand the question he asked and then tried to tell me my answer was contradictory. The manager stared down one of the employees in front of me and was so argumentative I nearly walked out.
Needless to say I took a position elsewhere.Interview Questions
