Our transitional care hospitals (certified as long-term acute care hospitals and licensed as acute care hospitals) provide high-intensity medical care to patients who need extended hospital stays. Our nursing and rehabilitation centers provide a full range of medical and social services to treat and support each and every one of our patients and residents. Through a combination of owned, managed and preferred providers, Kindred at Home assists patients and family members in identifying the most appropriate care level in a variety of settings including skilled nursing facilities, home and other residential settings. And RehabCare provides intensive rehabilitative care to help people return to their lives with as much independence as possible.
OUR EMPLOYEES MAKE A DIFFERENCE EVERY DAY
Our employees are valued members of an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, rehabilitation and respiratory therapists, dietitians and case managers. Their goal is simple -- to help medically complex patients recover to their fullest potential.
Kindred is the nation's largest operator of transitional care hospitals, which offer critical care services to patients with medically complex conditions. These patients are critically ill and have few care options left; they come to us because they are unable to recover completely in a short-term setting. Our patients have serious medical conditions, often many at the same time, requiring a coordinated, specialized approach, directed by physicians, to meet their daily medical needs.
Kindred Hospitals offer a unique opportunity for professional engagement and enrichment in an atmosphere that offers growth and independence. As a Kindred employee, you get more than a competitive package of salary and benefits. You get the satisfaction of truly making a difference in the lives of your patients – the fulfillment that reminds you why you got into healthcare in the first place.
Kindred's culture of caring for our patients and residents begins at our core - our employees. Quality care is a direct result of what you do every day. We repay your commitment to us in a number of ways, including through Kindred's Employee Benefits Program. We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes healthcare, dental, vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, time off and a 401(k) retirement plan.
RehabCare is the provider of choice for therapists across the country. They count on us to operate with a spirit of integrity, trust and a commitment to doing the right thing. They know we deliver outstanding clinical care and exceptional service.
As a therapist with RehabCare, you have the satisfaction of playing an integral role in helping people regain their health and restore their lives. Our team members work with us becuase we give them the freedom to be passionate about patient care and the environment that allows them to have fun while doing their life's work. Our commitment to them includes providing flexible hours, a competitive salary, attractive benefits and continuing education opportunities.
At Kindred Healthcare, our community involvement is consistent with our company's principles and with our mission of customer service and quality care.
Through the Kindred Foundation, the company maximizes resources to support worthwhile community activities in three categories – healthcare-related charities, employee education and mission-related research – giving our nursing centers and hospitals the ability to participate at a higher level in non-profit organizations they already support in their communities across the United States.
We have focused our efforts on developing strong partnerships with three key healthcare-related, non-profit organizations that are closely aligned with our business – the Alzheimer's Association, the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association.
These organizations have missions that are consistent with ours and through our involvement we can help them raise awareness about their important causes and aid these groups in funding research.
Since 2005, Kindred and our employees have contributed over $3.5 million to the Alzheimer's Association through participation in A Walk to End Alzheimer's. Each year, about 3,000 employees participate in more than 100 walks across the United States. American Lung Association
In 2012, Kindred became a National Corporate Team Partner of the American Lung Association. This partnership signifies Kindred’s commitment to improving lung health for all Americans, and in advancing our shared goals. Through this partnership, Kindred Hospitals support the American Lung Association through participation in, fundraising for and sponsorship of their walks, cycling adventures and climbs around the country. We’ve always supported the Lung Association because their mission aligns so closely with ours, in improving lung health and preventing lung disease. This is important to the health of our patients, as well as the well-being of our employees.
In addition, we have committed dollar-for-dollar matching funds for the hospitals that participate in the American Lung Association's events and for the hospitals and nursing centers that take part in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. The company also provides funds to each hospital to sponsor their local Heart Walk and American Lung Association events.
American Heart Association
Kindred Healthcare is excited to support the American Heart Association’s largest fundraiser, the Heart Walk, on a national level across all Kindred facilities. While Kindred facilities have participated in the walks for many years, in 2013, Kindred became a National Heart Walk Corporate Team Partner. In addition to helping fight the #1 and #4 killers of American men and women, heart disease and stroke, this great family-friendly event offers great team-building opportunities in local facilities as well as access to the American Heart Association’s exceptional wellness tools. The American Heart Association’s mission is one that Kindred believes in. They strive to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Eighty percent of heart disease is preventable. Research, advocacy efforts and educational resources are funded by the money raised by Heart Walk participants. Every day, Kindred cares for patients and residents who suffer from heart-related diseases. We see firsthand the effect these diseases have on patients, residents and their families.
Recently Susan Moss, Vice President of Enterprise Marketing and Communications for Kindred, shared her personal story of heart disease that landed her in the exact spot in the heart hospital that she had worked so hard to avoid.
Kindred is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in every community we serve. We will nurture partnerships with these organizations and continue to grow our involvement.
