Kiewit people are experts in their fields, recipients of some of the finest training in the industry. We know the success of our projects is determined by the success of our people, therefore we’re dedicated to their professional and technical development.
Kiewit has developed quality engineering and construction training programs. These courses are the foundation of our program and provide the basis for future success. Courses are provided in formwork, surveying, and planning and scheduling. As employees advance, they may be eligible for selection and participation in programs such as the Supervisory Conference, Superintendents’ School and Management Seminar.
Additional training programs are held annually to address needs in specific areas of construction. These programs include:

- Equipment Maintenance Manager’s Training
- Maintenance Engineer Training
Our districts provide a variety of training opportunities throughout the year based on staffing requirements. Most districts provide courses in:
- Foremen’s training
- Project engineering
- Project management training
Educational Expense Reimbursement
Upon successful completion of accredited coursework, employees will be reimbursed 75% of the cost for books, tuition and lab fees (up to an established maximum) associated with approved educational or vocational courses.
Professional Certification or Registration
We encourage our employees to seek professional certification and licensing as appropriate for their career needs.
Full-time employees will be reimbursed for the cost of applying for and obtaining professional certification or registration directly related to their duties and position.

We encourage participation in professional societies, technical associations and industry organizations.

Kiewit has a strong commitment to actually implementing company values in the work place. There were a ton of things to love about the company such as their deep commitment to promoting an honest work culture and making sure everyone on any job site is working safely and getting home to their family at the end of the day. Their strategies to avoid layoffs see many people transferred to positions all across north america. The company pays heavily for this, so it's quite apparent how much they see investment in their workers as something that is worthwhile.
Slackers, big egos, and troublemakers don't last long here. I've seen man craft workers and management show up with bad attitudes and get sent back home within a few days.

Long work hours for management, a somewhat discombobulated hiring and training process which is to be expected in a large company. Camp lunch food is pretty atrocious but breakfast and dinner were pretty good.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Instead of adopting a policy of purely following the work where ever it goes and whatever it entails, lobby governments for more green projects. As a young person who left the company because it was too heavily invested in performing oil and gas projects, I will never come back. Kiewit is now big enough to take a stance on what types of projects they prefer and oil and gas has proven itself volatile and irresponsible.
