Branding the Bank: Build Your Own Bank - Capco Blog

Posted By Sarah O'Callaghan Published: December 01, 2014 0 Comments Historically, rates have had precedence as the lead value of most financial propositions. Branding has taken a back seat, or not had a seat at all. Today however, transformational change, explosive change even, has impacted the market.

We want to give them the opportunities to showcase the ideas they would pursue outside the office and give them the tools to make it happen at Capco.” – Patrick Gormley, Capco COO

I have been working at Capco full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Good compensation and benefits (unlimited vacation is being discussed)
    - Great leadership in Canada (good focus on market strengths and very progressive and open minded)
    - Limitless opportunities to travel. I got to travel abroad to UK and New York for short term projects (5-10 months)
    - Worked with top-tier clients globally (massive financial institutions)
    - Decent work-life balance for a consulting firm (9am - 6pm)
    - Awesome corporate retreat (company flying all its employees to exotic place for annual meeting)

    Cons

    - New York office has been recently expanding aggressively - US leadership seemed to focus too much on selling rather than delivering
    - Canadian office only focuses on business in Bay St, which is understandable since Capco only serves financial institutions. Would be nice if the firm makes an attempt expanding to Montreal (Banque Nationale and Desjardins) or west towards Alberta or BC.
    - Promotion decisions by the leadership are questionable (a lot of the consultants feel that management values the contributions factor too much, as opposed to focusing on delivering good work for clients)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Canadian office has the right thing going on for them. The quality of its employees are higher than the ones in New York. Capco Toronto dedicates effort into recruiting talents from top Canadian schools (Waterloo, Western Ontario, UofT, Queen's, McGill) and industry professionals with project implementation experience, as opposed to New York where they recruit from industry regardless of the type of work they do (back office, operations, etc).
