    I worked at BUCA part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    The money was somewhat decent. I enjoyed working with the other servers.

    Cons

    The management! At first they were great but their true colors will come out I promise you that. They act like everything they do is a favor to you. Plus the paisano partner and the chef will scream at you because they are having a bad day. I truly felt I would be there for several years because I looked forward to going in. But after 2 years it was draining. I had no personal life and worked every single holiday. Plus they wouldn't allow you to bring in a sandwich or granola bar if you got hungry. It was very in humane to work us 14 hours with no break and no food.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take care of us! You don't realize how much we sacrifice for you and go out of our way to help the restaurant. You say you take care of us but quit acting its a favor to us. I would have stayed if it wasn't for management. It's a solid restaurant with delicious food. But quit allowing your managers to abuse its staff

    Application Details

    I applied in-person. The process took a dayinterviewed at BUCA in October 2011.

    Interview Details

    I walked in to apply. After filling out my application, I asked to speak with a manager while handing them the papers. They had no problem since it was a downtime in the restaurant. This is pretty typical of restaurant behavior so far. When the manager came, I answered questions about stress behavior, scheduling needs, income needs, and team-oriented work. I answered them all well and the manager told me to wait while she went to get the General Manager. He sat down and said, "First off, you got the job! But, why are you leaving your other job? Are you going to school?" That was pretty much it.

    Negotiation Details
    There wasn't a negotiation phase. All servers get basically the same option. Minimum waiter wages ($2.13-$9 per hour, depending on the state), no breaks, and the number of hours you deserve based on work performance and attitude.
