Job Summary:
The Principal Electro-Optical Engineer will be responsible for leading the development and innovation in sensor technology, particularly in the fields of optical system-based particle detection. The role involves designing and implementing cutting-edge sensor systems, conducting advanced research, and contributing to the strategic direction of sensor technologies within the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Follow all safety rules and regulations, all work must be done thinking “Safety First”.
- Develop novel sensor technologies for various applications.
- Conduct high-level research in optical measurement and spectroscopy.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optical-based sensor technology into broader systems.
- Guide the strategic direction for sensor technology research and development within the organization.
- Present technical solution and technical data to company/project stakeholders
- Strong ability to transfer technical information to other engineers.
- Manage collaborations with academic and industrial partners.
- Conduct feasibility studies; Build test fixtures, conduct experiments, and retire technical risks.
- If ever working hybrid model (from home, or offsite location), must be able to travel to LWS office when requested if any company needs arise.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work with and as a Team.
- Get along with others, not creating an offensive or hostile work environment.
- Able to lift up to 20 pounds and 21+ pounds as a two-person lift.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Architect optical based sensors technologies to detect in both aerosols and liquid mediums.
- Hand-on skills in conducting lab experiments and building optical system prototypes.
- Strong knowledge in analytical spectroscopy (UV/Visible/NIR/IR absorption, fluorescence, Raman, Optical Scatter etc.).
- Ability to develop algorithms for photosensor-based instruments and experience in time-resolved spectroscopy.
- Strong ability to model electro-optical systems, preferably Zmax
- Ability to use high level data analytical tools e.g. MATLAB
- Ability to successfully read and interpret schematics, block diagrams, sketches, oral and written instructions, manufacturer's specifications/operation manuals, and analyze hardware configurations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient in Project Management Tools such as MS Project or similar
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, managers, and personnel from various departments within the organization.
- Moderate level of proficiency with personal computers.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, talk and hear.
- Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.

Travel:
- Periodic travel based on project needs (up to 25%).
Education and Experience:
- B.S or M.S. in physics, optical science, engineering or a related discipline
- 10 years of related work experience in electro-optical instrumentation design and testing. Extensive experience in sensor technology.
- Proven track record of successful product development and innovation in relevant fields.
