    I worked at Verizon Wireless as a contractor for more than a year


    Warren is a good location in NJ. Easy commute.
    Decent facility. Has cafeteria. Parking garage.
    People (non-management) are great to work with.
    Young, energetic workforce.
    Decent projects (Java shop & mobile development)
    Verizon Wireless is doing fairly well as a company so no layoffs.


    Required to work 10 hr days, minimum.
    Verizon in general pays on the low side.
    Management is incompetent. No clue how to run projects.
    The answer to every problem with every project: Work more hours.
    No space at facility. Some people without cubes.
    Too many contractors, more of them than employees.
    High turnover in contractors. No knowledge retention.
    Management does not understand the meaning of work/life balance. No such thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    When hiring managers, look outside for fresh ideas. Do not only promote from within. By doing that things will never change and it will continue to be a sweat shop environment.
