Great people to work with, but uninspired studio culture - lacking in qualified management and leadership

I have been working at Ubisoft

    Pros

Get to work with some amazing, fun and talented production people. Life / work balance is generally respected - not a lot of overtime / crunches required.

    Cons

The only opportunity to work on AAA franchises is when outsourced from Montreal - no strong internal IP. Lack of a strong studio identity, weak leadership and unqualified leads / management directing people more talented and experienced than themselves. There is no stimulating creative culture for the artists - very little encouragement or opportunity to advance within the company unless you are good at internal politics. Little or no training for artists.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Must endeavor to recapture the creativity and innovation which gave Ubisoft's new IP's success in the past. Put experienced, competent, visionary people in leadership roles to inspire teams to rise to challenges. Rekindle the creative drive to explore new IP and lead the gaming community instead of reacting to it's trends. Value your employees - reward outstanding skills, allow them to follow their passion and provide more training to grow. Stay in touch with staff on the production floor to get a true sense of how the project is developing.
