Great benefits, non-existent promotion strategy for administrative level staff

I worked at Procter & Gamble

    Pros

As expected P&G provides great benefit package (not so great since recently though) and if you join in as a manager then your future in the company is set - you're basically expected to grow in your career and be promoted every two years (unless you're completely not coping with work).

There is high diversity at the jobplace and many different causes that the company supports.

It's also a very stable job (whatever job you're doing there full time) - rarely anyone get's fired. You really have to slack off to be fired.

    Cons

If you join as an administrative assistant or any other non-managerial role you'll find out that there are two hierarchical structures in the company - for managers and for admins. You basically DO NOT grow into managerial role even if they promise that 2-4% do that on an annual basis. On the networking events by top management where they talk about the opportunities in the company and careers and any other concerns, admins sometimes are not even mentioned.
Non-managerial staff doesn't get even half as many in-house trainings as managers do. There are almost no trainings that are developed for non-managers to grow into managers.
And it's all after they tell you on your job interview that "We Promote From Within" what they forget to say is that they promote from within only if candidates joined at the right step - at a managerial step.
So if you want to experience all the benefits of working in this company join as an Account Manager or Account Brand Manager but NEVER EVER as an administrative assistant.

In addition to that they don't pay overtime and virtually everyone in the company works overtime and weekends to cope with expanding workload and decreasing workforce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to the support staff (admin assistants and specialists) there are many and many and many talented people who can be the best choice for that new opened manager position vs a new hire you chose to put into that position who's barely out of school and has no management experience at all (I know they will learn on the spot but why not promote someone who worked under the management for years and knows the role from inside out and knows how to manage those who she/he represents at the moment).
There were quite a few instances when great people left the company because the promotion from admin to managerial level they so deserved was never offered to them.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
