    I have been working at Bon-Ton Stores full-time (more than 8 years)


    The management is great (to me) but I think it comes down to attitude. If you are a team player, your co-workers will like you. Not every day is a cake walk in the retail industry and if you think it is "just cashiering" then you are in the wrong business. I have learned a ton working for this company, about myself, the public, how to work with others and keep the peace, to never give up because life gets hard sometimes, and most of all make the best of a bad situation. If everyone did that we'd all love our jobs!


    On the downside, I do witness a LOT of banter, between associates as well as management. Not everyone is going to get along, however, but it would be nice if all management were on the same page. Let the employees know what management thinks is supposed to be "need to know" information. There have been so many things I have taught myself simply because I hated asking and never getting the correct answers. All the information you could ever want to know has all been laid out and is readily available on The One and there really is no reason management can't share that information with ALL the seasoned associates. That has been my biggest pet peeve to date. Also, being promised a position only to be put on the back burner is very frustrating! I have been applying other places constantly because I have been with the company for over 8 years and bust my hump for peanuts with little to no recognition or decent raise. I have held 4 positions in my time with the company, sales associate, sales support, MST Supervisor, and receiving associate. I am well-seasoned and know my job well. Ultimately, they might lose one of their best employees because they don't care enough to give me the promotion and raise I deserve, and have been promised already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward the hard working employees who care about their jobs. Notice and replace those who are lazy and slack off. Don't be afraid to train the new employees and give us more hours to get what we need to get done. Some things are more than we can chew. Update the stores look to compete with Kohls. We are losing to them in the coupon game as well as first impression with the way we look. You could eat off their floors! Fix our broken equipment! Give Capital more time to clean. Invest in our company and our employees and they will return the favor, which in turn creates happy employees and happy customers = stronger sales!!
