No Offer – Interviewed in London, ON Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 24, 2013
Interview Details The interviewers seemed nice, but somewhat shallow and fake. The interview was relaxed, but I couldn't really relax, since there were so many people and the interviewers didn't really seem to care about what I had to say, although I was dressed in the type of clothes they sell at UO. Maybe it's because I'm in high school? I don't know..

I applied for Urban Outfitters after one of my old friends told me she was working there. I figured I needed a job in the city, and thought retail would be one of the easier jobs to start off with so I called them inquiring about hiring etc. They said they were hosting open interviews every Wednesday and Thursday, so I showed up for the Thursday one. You basically fill out an application before the actual interview which has things like prior work experiences and a few questions like "who's your fashion inspiration" and "what do you consider to be good customer service." I'm not sure if they actually do take a serious look at these answers, but take some time to write them down just to be safe.
I was interviewed with one other guy that day. I was kind of surprised since I've heard that a lot of people usually show up for these things. The interview lasted for only about 5 minutes since the guy only had about three questions to ask us. One thing I didn't really like was that he basically sat us down in the middle of the store for the interview; the music was so loud and I honestly couldn't hear what he was saying. Anyways, after the interview was done, he said something about like how they'll send us an e-mail soon.
It's only been a week so I'm not sure what's gonna happen with my application, but that's basically my experience with them. Overall, it was a pretty relaxed interview.

I was made aware of a new Urban Outfitters opening at the Younge and Eglinton center online, so i sent in a resume. Right away i received an automated email letting me know about open interviews being held at the beginning of February. I went to the open interviews and it was a group interview. Myself and about 4 or 5 other people were called in and were asked fairly simple questions as the interviewer wrote (or didn't write) our answers down. It's hard to gauge with open interviews, because it's really up in the air what kind of things they're looking for. (whether it's appearance/experience/personality, etc.)
A few days after the interview, I received an invitation via email to participate in an online quiz/assessment regarding loss prevention (they're very big on that) drugs, tardiness, etc. Some of the questions were really out there, but you really need to pay attention not only to what they're asking, but why they're asking it.
A few days later, within the same week, I was called and they wanted to interview me. I went into the Yonge street location and the interview was one-on-one. The interviewer was really nice and made you feel very comfortable. The questions asked were pretty basic interview questions, some repeats of questions asked at the open interviews.
Finally about a week later, I received a call where they verified my availability, let me know the wage I would start at, and offered me the position.

Interview Details okay, first interview was at a job fair one on one with a team leader. general questions about my experience and what fashion and leadership meant to me. he saw that i had management experience and stated that that was the qualification for team lead but it wasn't lengthy enough for a departmental manager. i was applying for team lead position with the hope of moving up in the company. the interviewer was really nice and i felt good about the interview. got a call the weekend of for a second interview that was a group interview in their stock room that looked like a dungeon...many flights of steps down :O. group interview went well and i felt i was able to stand out. i was told i would be contacted in a weeks time. a week later, got a link in my email for the personality test. completed it, and a week later got an interview with the head visual merchandiser and the store manager. actually i got there early and they were 30 minutes late to interview me. apparently they were waiting for me down at the dungeon...while maybe they should've come up or called upstairs to ask if i had arrived. the manager working told me earlier that he had notified them. there was clearly a communication and time management problem that i found unprofessional. i finally got the interview and made it clear i was applying for team lead....we spoke about my previous sales, management and retail experience . i did feel though that they were not assessing my experience but rather my look, and how i answered the questions, they didn't seem to be paying much attention. anyways got a call three days later with a job offer.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining – i chose to decline the offer because i felt and stated clearly that i was applying for team lead .....and the manager called me to offer me part time sales!!!!!! and it was quite clear that my skills and experience were far above that which i was being offered.... and at minimum wage!!! i then asked why i was offered sales while i applied for team lead.... and she said all the positions for team lead were filled!!! so why did u waste my time for weeks then? just don't call back if your not searching for that position! it was so disrespectful. and a waste of my time. i still love their clothes and culture though. the interview process also helped me become more aware of my skills, abilities and what i could offer a company. they missed out on me.. not the other way around ;). good thing i kept my current job during the interview process...yes, the end was not what i expected....but you live and you learn.

Interview Details It was a really fun interview , I felt really comfortable the interviewer was really nice , they ask general questions like ''why you want to work at UO?'' , what is for you a bad and a good costumer service? what fashion icon or person inspires you the most ? and the last and more surprising question was : what is your favorite book , I was really happy with that questions becuase i'm a person that read a lot so I was really sure about my response , at the end of the interview they give us a link to go on internet and make a test around 15 min long , I'm still waiting for a call but it's been 5 days since the interview so i'm not worried!

Interview Details It was an open call interview. It was supposed to be group interviews, but I arrived early and had to do a one on one interview. I was asked questions about my job skills, previous jobs, and fashion. After the interview, they gave me a slip of paper that gave me instructions to fill out a survey online. The survey was about drug and alcohol use on the job, stealing, etc. I got a call about a week later offering me the position.

Was contacted via email two days after I applied for a group interview. I was looking for a second job since school is out and thought it would be perfect.
There was three other girls with me. All worked in retail already except me...so I knew I was doomed. The MIL was really nice though. Asked all the basic questions.

Applied online through the careers website. I received an e-mail the next day to attend a group interview, which was held about 5 days later. There were 9 of us at the group interview. Half the people were dressed in "hipster-ish" clothing and the other half were dressed fairly average. The interview was conducted in the middle of the mall in one of those sitting areas between the stores. There weren't even enough seats for all of us, so half of us were left standing along with the interviewer. The interviewer was the women's team lead and she wasn't dressed in Urban Outfitters style clothing at all.
The interview itself seemed extremely rushed. First, we went around in a circle and told a bit about ourselves and an interesting fact. Then the interviewer started asking us questions. From reading reviews on here, I was expecting some questions relating to personal style, interests, fashion/music taste, etc., but we weren't asked about any of that. We were asked "Why Urban?," "What do we like about working in retail?", "A time when we gave excellent customer service?", "What we would do to prevent theft?" "What we would do on days when the store was not super busy?" I have never worked retail or had any job experience, and everyone else did, so I'm not sure why they wanted to interview me because it was clear they were looking for someone with retail experience. The interview lasted about 13 minutes. I felt like the interviewer knew who she was going to pick within the first 5 minutes, so the rest of the interview seemed like a waste of time. You could tell she was "in" to some people's responses more than others. We finished by going around in a circle and repeating our names.
At the end, she asked 3 of the people to stay an extra 10 minutes to discuss their "availability." From reading reviews on here prior to the interview, I knew that this was their way of discreetly telling these people that they were moving on and giving them a link to the survey. As soon as I heard that line, I knew I hadn't been selected. Of course, she gave us some spiel that she would be in contact with the rest of us and we were free to go. At this point, I was annoyed because the entire process seemed like a waste of time. I commuted 35 minutes there for a 13 minute interview.
