Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Minneapolis, MN (US) Jan 2012 – Reviewed Apr 14, 2012
Interview Details
Applied for the job directly on Target website and received an email from Target HR to schedule a phone interview with Target HR rep.
Total of 3 interviews:
1st Interview: Informational & Behavioral Interview with HR Rep.
Informational Question Examples:
What interested you in this position?
Why Target?
Walk me through your resume?
How would contribute to Target?
Behavioral Questions were situation result based questions like others mentioned in previous posts. My recommendations study ALL of them!!!! Have your stories ready! Target looks for answers that use the S(what was the situation) T(your task) A(your approach) R(the final result). You need to give all this information in a short amount of time.
At the end of the interview the HR rep mentioned that she will get in a touch with the hiring manager to schedule my next phone interview. This basically meant that the HR rep thought I was a good fit and was ready to move me to the next step. From this point forward the HR rep is your advocate, use it to your advantage….ask questions about the process and questions that the next interviewers will ask.
2nd Interview with Hiring Manger and Hiring Manager’s Peer
Questions were very technical questions based on the position I was applying for. Be prepared to talk about your work experience. Technical interview question examples:
-If you had a certain issues how would you resolve it?
-If you were assigned a specific project, what steps would you take to complete it?
- There also team questions…they want to ensure you will be a good team player and are able to work with cross functional teams
At the end of this interview, the hiring manager thanked me for my time and said that the HR would contact me regarding the next steps.
3rd interview: A few days later the HR rep called and said that the team would like to invite me for an on-site interview.
I met with a total of 6 people:
-My hiring manager’s peer in another department that I would need to work with in this position
-HR manager
-A person in a similar role that I was applying for. This interview was an informal coffee break, an opportunity for me to ask questions about Target. Be sure you have good questions ready to ask. This interview is informal but in a way it’s to see if you will be a good peer to the others in your team.
-My hiring manager and peer
-My hiring manger’s boss
-My hiring manager senior boss
Overall, the interview was behavioral based questions. Each person interviewing me had about 5 behavioral questions that were given to them from HR.
The behavioral questions once again required me to use the S(what was the situation) T(your task) A(your approach) R(the final result). As you answer the questions, the interviewer will note down each component to ensure that you gave them a situation, task, approach, and result in your answer. Like I said earlier, make sure you have your stories ready. Stories should show that you are a good fit for the role you are applying for.
Study All the questions that others mentioned. All the questions I had were exact words to what others posted. I was prepared which made me more confident.
After all the interviews, the HR rep walked me out and asked me how I did. She then told me Target should give me an answer in about a week.
I got the offer after 6 working days. Target is willing to negotiate, so make sure to speak up. Within 24 hours of getting the offer I had to do my drug test and they initiated the background test.
Good Luck to ALL! I also wanted to Thank all the others that have posted. These posts really helped me with interview.
One week in my job with Target and loving it….great culture…great place to work….very family orientated.
