Executive Team Leader at Target

No Offer – Interviewed in Halifax, NS Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 15, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied online, and had a phone interview maybe a month later, followed by an online assessment. A couple weeks after I was flown to Halifax for the interview process. I had two back to back interviews.

Everyone was really nice, but I felt that the interview process itself was flawed. They ask generic questions, and want very canned responses. Although I have 6 years of retail experience, several of the questions they asked did not apply. Instead of making up fake stories, I thought they would appreciate my honesty and so I told them I had not dealt with situation x or y. I told them how I would approach these situations in the event that it did happen, but they seemed bored by this, and I noticed that they did not take notes while I answered this way. So I guess it was better if I lied, and made up a story? That's not ethical, but that's it I guess.

I was notified a few days later that I would not receive an offer. The recruiter informed me that they felt I was nervous (nonsense), and did not provide detailed answers (I do not agree).

Friendly people though, at least they have that going for them.

No Offer – Reviewed May 12, 2013 New

Interview Details Applied online, got an email the next day to setup an appointment for an interview.
The worst experience ever. Had to wait an hour before I was called in for my interview... People walked-in after me and went in to interview before me (job fair). Did not even ask for my resume (I gave it to them in the middle of one of my interviews), did not even ask for references. Nobody else was as professionally dressed as me (everyone was wearing normal clothes). Three interview process, all in one day and were offering jobs on the stop.

Sales Floor Team Leader at Target

No Offer – Interviewed in Hamilton, ON Feb 2013 – Reviewed Apr 25, 2013

Interview Details This interview was conducted at a hotel. I went through 2 rounds of interviews both with ETLs. They asked basic questions, "Why do you want to work for Target?", "If we asked a teacher or previous employer about you what would they say?" Some situational/behavioral questions but overall each interview only consisted of about 4 questions. If you've peaked their interest and they like you then you will go on to round 3. In this round you will meet with a manager and most likely if things are running on time you'll meet with the store manager. She will then ask you "similar" questions to what you've been asked already. They want specific detail in the S.T.A.R form of answering. DO NOT ramble on!!!! Be very friendly and a little general conversation on the way to your interview seat with any of the interviewees goes a long way. Present yourself as a sincerely out going and friendly person NOT like a teenager thats on too much sugar. Dress for the part. Research and know your answers for behavioral question. They are posted on this site. And lastly if you get the "we'll call you in 7-10 business days" you've been axed. They have HR personel at the hotel because they hire on the spot. There is a small BUT to this though. If you have qualities that they like but you aren't maybe experienced enough but full of potential then HR may call you within that time from to ask you if you'd be interested in a different position and to be interviewed for that position.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you realized you made an error and what was the outcome?   Answer Question

Cashier at Target

Accepted Offer – Reviewed May 06, 2013

Interview Details It was a mass interview at a hotel. When I arrived, I was seated in a waiting room with 6-8 other people who were also waiting for interviews. I was then called to the big room next door where there were several tables and other individual interviews occurring. The person who interviewed me had 2 pages of questions where she would ask me a question and wrote down my answer. It took probably 5-7 minutes. I was then seated back in the waiting room for 15 minutes and then had a second interview with a different person, which took much longer (10-15 minutes) because the questions required more lengthy answers. The first interview focused more on what I have done in the past whereas the second interview focused more on what I can bring to Target and what I would do in a certain situation. The answer they seemed to look for was an emphasis on customer service. My interview was 3 days ago and I am waiting to hear back from them.

Interview Question – What will you bring to Target if you were employed?   Answer Question

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Kelowna, BC Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 06, 2013

Interview Details The process was like everyone else on this website said. I arrived at was seated in a small waiting area with a TV playing a little video about target. I was then called to my first interview where one person asked me about myself and three situations in which I had shown certain abilities, such as being a leader, and another person wrote my answers down. I then was taken to the waiting area again before I was called for my second interview. This interview was like the last one except with two new people and different questions. These questions asked what I would do in a certain situation. I once again was taken to the waiting area before called for my third interview where they offered me a job as a softlines worker, even though I initially applied for cashier. The offer however is conditional, as you have to pass a background check first to be hired.

My friend was interviewing at the same time as me, and he only got two interviews and at the second one they said they'd call him back within a week to let him know. From reading the interview experiences on this website I knew he wouldn't get the job.

Also, at each interview they asked me why I wanted to work at target, so be prepared for that question!

Interview Question – What would you do if someone came to the store looking for a pair of shoes but they couldn't find them?

What would you do if a customer insisted the price of an item was $17.99 but it was ringing up as $19.99

Why do you want to work at target?

Give an example of when you were a leader.

Give an example of when you made a mistake, and what you did to fix it.

Give an example of when you had to work in a team.
  Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was not able to negotiate, they simply told me the jobs available and the starting wage.
