I was approached by a recruiter for a position within VeriSign's User Authentication business, originally on a contract-to-hire basis. I initially had a phone interview with a member of the Professional Services team. Though scheduled for an hour, our conversation was so pleasant that we actually spoke for closer to two.
This was followed up with a technical interview with two other members of the team, and the Director of the group.
En route to my third interview, an in-person with three of the team members, I received word of Symantec's acquisition of the VeriSign security business. Though only made public that day, the guys I met with had been aware of it for some time. They conveyed their faith in the business.
The final "interview" was with the VP overseeing the division. Without really asking me any questions, she offered me the position, adding that with the acquisition they'd decided to make it a direct-hire rather than risk losing the headcount.
All in all, the entire process took about a month, and was extremely pleasant.
Interview Question – None that I found particularly difficult. The technical interview did hit a lot on my knowledge of PKI as well as LDAP and TCP/UDP ports. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I was very pleased with the offer made. However, shortly after the acquisition, a portion of the team left to start a new company. As they were attempting to recruit the rest of us to go with them, the EVP offered an immediate raise, increased bonus structure and restricted stock units. Suffice to say, I stuck around.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Los Angeles, CA (US) May 2012 – Reviewed Apr 09, 2013
Interview Details Was contacted by a recruiter due to my resume posting online. Two phone interviews, once with the recruiter, second with hiring manager. Flew out to Los Angeles and met with the staff for a day of meetings/interviews. Some were casual, like a lunch with development staff that was pretty much just feeling me out, others were more technical. Received an offer a few days after flying back home.
Interview Question – There were many logic based questions. I would later learn, after being on the other side of the interview process, that this team liked to ask very difficult or impossible questions just to see how you would try to work through them. They weren't concerned with an answer, just your ability to try and work through it. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Initial offer was substantial enough that I accepted without further negotiation. Received generous starting salary, plus full relocation and a nice stock package.
