Interview Details
I applied in-store and got a call about three weeks later when they started hiring for back-to-school. The first interview was pretty basic. It was with one of the managers and he asked about my availability, previous work experience (especially in retail), behavioural questions, why I wanted to work there, whether I had any add-on selling experience (they're big on that there), etc. I got offered a second interview for the next day and it was with the copy and print center manager. This interview lasted quite a bit longer and he asked more situational type questions, why I would be a good fit for staples, good and bad experiences shopping in other stores, and how I have handled difficult customers before.
I didn't feel overly confident about the second interview, but they called me a few hours later and offered me the job, so I guess it went quite well.
Interview Question – Tell me about a good shopping experience you have had and what you liked about it / tell me about a bad shopping experience you have had and how you think that experience could have been improved. View Answer

Interview Details Applied in-person at the store and was immediately called to set up an interview. I was nervous when I got there, and I think the Interviewer could tell and really that was my major downfall. He asked me a lot of questions regarding how i would act in certain situations and basically just tried to get to know me as a potential employee. Got a call back a few weeks later saying that they were not going to continue with my application at this time. My sister applied and made it through three separate interviews before being declined as well.
Interview Question – Describe a experience where you had to take control of a difficult situation. Answer Question

Interview Details Telephone screening was simple and tailored to the position - it took about 30 minutes. In person interview was about 1 hour long - mainly resume review. Arrive early, as there is a personality test to complete, and the receptionist must issue a photo id (no joke) before you can proceed to meet with your interviewer. The person conducting the in person interview was not a recruiter and did not ask any behavioural interview questions. 10 people made it to the interview stage, so I wonder how many were phone screened. Very slow to follow up after the interview, despite committing to a response within a week.

Interview Details
It took WAY to long, and the interview was so "routine". Basically they go from high school and back to your first job and go ALL the way up everything you have done on your resume. Not only that, but they ask the EXACT same questions for EVERY job! Basically - what did you like about it, what didn't you like about it, what did you like about the boss, and what didn't you like about the boss. Not creative at all, and nothing that would get to the employer to learn about the potential employee.
It was three weeks after I had been called to schedule my first interview, then it was another three weeks before they called back to schedule the next interview another three weeks later. I know I am a great candidate and by that time I no longer even wanted to work for them. Not to say the company isn't good, or that they don't have good products, just that the interview process needs to be seriously improved!
Interview Question – Nothing unexpected at all. All extrememly basic questions. I suppose that would be the difficult part - trying to come up with different answers for the same questions to each job you had! View Answer

Interview Details I was quickly contacted for an interview about a week after I applied. My initial reaction upon walking into the store was that it was a very relaxed enviroment, and everyone was super friendly. The interview did get interupted a few times as we were interviewing in the furnature pad area and associates and customers kept stopping us for help. I had a second interview a couple days later and was about the same. Upon driving home that same day, i was called back and told i had recieved the job.
Interview Question – I think the most difficult question anywhere you apply is "Why staples?" or "Why do you want this position?" You really don't know too much about a particular place unless you research it ahead of time. You don't want to sound like your making everything up, but there is also some uncertainity in answering those questions. View Answer
Negotiation Details – It was just a phone call saying i have been offered the job and my pay rate is set at $7.45. Since then, the pay has gone up.

Interview Details I applied online and was called back by a manager to come in for an interview the following day. The process was fairly quick- I went into his office and he asked me a few questions and had me fill out some paperwork. He was very flirty and unprofessional (later on after I got the job he continued being this way-such a creeper). I initially applied for a position in the copy center and told that's what I'd have, but they put me on a cash register and I didn't do anything else other than stock once for the two months that I worked there. I was given a shirt uniform that day three times larger than my body and told to "make it work". The rest of the process was ridiculous, as I watched videos all day that they considered "training". Overall, it was a bad experience.
Interview Question – "Why do you want to work at Staples?" View Answer
Negotiation Details – There was absolutely NO negotiation- the manager didn't even tell me what the pay was until well into the interview. Surprise, surprise, it was minimum wage.
