I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Schlumberger in September 2013.

Interview Details Apply at career fair
- Tell them you are interested in working as a field engineer
- They ask are you eligible to work in xx country
- Your availability
- Your GPA
- Tell them something about enjoying working outdoors/long hours/all nighters/ etc...

Phone call for interview
- Asked to attend info session prior to interview

Interview
- Asked what you know about the company
- Why you want to work as a field engineer and why Schlumberger
- Are you willing to relocate
- Your 5 year career path
- How you handle stress
- Mechanical problem
- The interviewer had no ability to show emotion or empathy, very unfriendly. (must be frustrating picking from overqualified candidates for a long hours, back breaking high paying job)
- Asked about type of drivers license and driving experience.
- Asked about ability to work in the USA

- They want to make sure they are not wasting time spending 3 months training someone who will not stay with the company for 2-5 years.
- Current opportunities are in Alberta only (Canada, 2013-2014) , no international opportunities.
- The head HR person was herself a field engineer, she lasted 1 year. the avg is 15-16 months.. as seen from other reviews. The other interviewer was a design engineer and had no experience as a field engineer... They interviewers did not seem happy with their job.
- Job seems very hands on and laborious and monotonous. Work here for $ and new grad experience.
- Tell them you enjoy being in the middle of nowhere, camping etc..
- Show passion and love for everything related to OIL and OIL servicing.

Brain teaser:
- How many degrees between the hour hand and the minute hand at 3:15. 7.5 degrees.

Field Engineering is not for everyone !
Do your research, attend the info session. Kindly decline the interview if you do no think it is the job for you, do not waste your time and their time with an interview.

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Schlumberger in June 2011.

Interview Details There are three stages of interview, a 20-30min interview on phone, a flew-in group interview at one of the facilities and an exit interview with additional questions.

Phone interview consist of typical questions like where do you see yourself in 5 years and some non-technical question for basic reasoning ability.

Group interview usually involve a hands on project (i.e building a tower with paper) and presentations. The interview is quite lengthy (5~6 hours) but majority of the time they are explaining the type of work you'll be doing.

Third interview is more concrete question asking your preference on segment, and working environment.

Interview Question – Nothing is particularly mind boggling, but the two recruiters were playing good/bad personalities during the second interview.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Got emailed offer. As a desperate new graduate I do not have much room to negotiate.

I applied online and the process took 5 months - interviewed at Schlumberger.

Interview Details Applied for the position in November and was called for the first interview in January. The interview was very relaxed and informal; focusing on team work and personality. Two weeks later I was invited for a second interview which is to take place in March.

Interview Question – No questions were particularly difficult or unusual for these type of interviews. Heavily based on referring to times in varying team environments and certain challenges that may have arisen during the situation.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Schlumberger in February 2013.

Interview Details Was contacted for a first interview after submitting a resume to the university database. Had a briefing session with interested students and other candidates before the interview to learn more about the company.
Interview was not conducted by who they said it would be conducted by and was not much of an interview at all. Wasn't asked anything about myself or any typical interview questions, the interview just explained more about the company and how awesome it was to work for them but that it would be very difficult to get the position due to the high number of qualified applicants. Was quite surprised when invited back for a second interview.

Interview Question – Did not really get asked anything.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Schlumberger.

Interview Details First round interview, was contacted after submitting my resume to a recruiter during a university career fair. Interview lasted 30 minutes with the same recruiter from the fair. Interviewer was friendly, interested in personal details, very honest about the demands of the job. Made a big point of explaining how Schlumberger supports its employees with training, etc.

Received an invitation to a second round interview 2.5 weeks later and was given 3 days to respond. Second round interview takes place about a month after the first round interview, but I had to reschedule due to a conflict so mine will be a little later than that.

Interview Question – No difficult questions, but you are expected to show personality e.g. 'tell me about yourself'   Answer Question

I applied through other source and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Schlumberger in July 2012.

Interview Details 1st Stage: Telephone interview. It was very casual for me, the interviewer asked about my hobbies and some of my past experience. I'd say it was very informal, as long as you sound confidence and your familiar with your resume's experience you're good.

2nd Stage: On-site Interview. 2 day interview, consist of self-introduction, group game, presentation regarding a specific Field Engineer discipline, tour in SLB's equipment plant and an interview. The whole 2 day process was a huge interview itself, so don't lose your cool just because you think you schooled any part of the process, stay cool the whole time. Be prepared about your presentation, it's a good chance to show your preparation. Ask questions during plant visits, show interests and your knowledge about their operation.

Interview Question – There was no difficult/unexpected question for me, but that was just my case. Again, be prepared for your presentation's topic, and show that your a team player during the group game, and don't be afraid to interact with SLB's people or other candidates during the tour since it shows you're good with people.   Answer Question
