Accepted Offer – Interviewed in San Diego, CA (US) Mar 2012 – Reviewed May 18, 2013 New
Interview Details Interview process was pretty straight forward, and everyone was really nice. Nevertheless, I had this sneaking suspicion the whole time that there was a lot of flattery scripted into how the recruiter interacts with you. It felt at times as if they were trying to sell the Financial Representative position to me more than I was trying to sell my resume to them.
Interview Question – List ten unique questions you have about the position. This was the "homework" leading up to the second interview with NW Mutual. I felt this was an attempt to further sell the position to me. Answer Question

Interview Details They call you for a brief company informational interview and they'll ask you somethings about you on your resume. You'll pretty much get the second round if you get the first call. They people are nice and very enthusiastic. Second round is Skype/phone call and it's more in depth and they'll ask several behavioral questions.
Interview Question – How are you going to expand our company by using your own network? Answer Question

Interview Details I had a phone interview and two on site interviews. Very descriptive and love to hear your story and what you can bring to the table to make Northwestern Mutual a successful company. How can you stand out?
Interview Question – Why would you be successful at selling life insurance and creating financial plans? Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL (US) Apr 2009 – Reviewed May 13, 2013 New
Interview Details Was referred by a family friend and was contacted by NMFN to schedule an interview. First round basically personality questions with a recruiter to see if you have the right personality. Second round is with a current Financial Representative. Pretty much the same type of interview. After that you're given "homework." Have to go out and contact 5 people and talk to them about their profession and have them recommend 5 more people for you to get in touch with. This is to see if you can get referrals as part of the business model. Final round interview is going over homework and more personality/fit questions.
Interview Question – Hardest thing was making sure you actually got names and numbers from the people you interviewed for homework. If they say I'll get back to you and you tell the interviewers that it looks like you don't have the initiative to close the deal. No brainteasers or anything. All about personality and fit. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiation as an intern.

Interview Details
I approached Northwestern Mutual after doing a bit of research into different companies that offer personal financial planning.
My first interview was with a current financial representative who was eager to answer any initial questions. This representative encouraged me to get in touch with the recruiter.
My first official interview covered my background, my resume, and my career objectives. The recruiter and I also spoke about the office, their values, and what type of work environment I could expect.
After the first interview I was asked to take a couple personality tests to ensure I would fit the career culture. Once these tests came back a second interview was scheduled.
This interview was with the office manager and covered topics such as potential salary (except for a few "signing bonuses", the pay is 100% commission), the vision of the office, and answering any other questions I had.
After this interview I was offered a part-time contract while I worked on achieving a Life/Health license. Once I passed that test a full-time contract was offered.
Interview Question – I don't remember the specific questions asked. Mainly, the interview process was more of a dialogue than a checklist of questions I had to pass. The recruiter was very pleasant, calming, and encouraged me to think about the career seriously. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Negotiation was not necessarily an option. Since pay is 100% commission based, the offer was take it or leave it.
No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY (US) Mar 2012 – Reviewed May 09, 2013 New
Interview Details Was contacted by recruiter. Set up an interview in NYC, and went to office. Cool experience but would never take this job. Seems like they don't even care if you work for them just want your contacts to buy life insurance. Told me to come back with a list of over 100 people I think would be interested in buying life insurance. Commission based only. Not what I was looking for, but someone might be.
Interview Question – Do you know of anyone else who would be interested in working this job? View Answer
Declined Offer – Reviewed May 09, 2013 New
Interview Details I submitted my resume and got a call back a week later. They scheduled my interview and sent me an email asking me to think about where I'd want to be in 3-5 years. I went through the first interview without a hitch, but they wanted a second interview. Before the second interview, I read up on Northwestern Mutual and found out that they essentially ask you to sell insurance to your friends and family. I hinted at this in the second interview, after I got the position, by asking what exactly it was that I'd be doing for them, and they verified this. Although I appreciate the interview practice, I don't appreciate being misled.
Interview Question – Where do you see yourself in 1 year? 3 years? 5 years? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – They ask you to sell insurance to your family and friends.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed on New York, NY (US) Jan 2011 – Reviewed May 02, 2013
Interview Details Most people were hired by individuals. I had my interview with a financial advisor directly. He asked me about my education and tested my language skill (because I said I am fluent in Chinese). He asked if I am willing to start part-time, and I said yes. That was pretty much it. He said he will get back to me and I got an email from him two days after saying that he would like to have me.
Interview Question – Nothing unexpected. Answer Question
Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY (US) Apr 2013 – Reviewed Apr 29, 2013
Interview Details The company contacted me via email and just asked me to interview with the company in two days. I think if most of my work is involved in making cold calls I will drop it.
