Declined Offer – Interviewed in Southfield, MI (US) Aug 2012 – Reviewed May 24, 2013
Interview Details
The Managing Partner I was interviewed by was phenomenal. One month after he hired me, he was transferred to a position down south.
Questions were straight-forward and he totally explained the commission package through a series of two interviews. The first interview was about the position and he just spoke to me to see if I fit into the corporate culture.
Interview Question – Why do you feel you are a good fit in New York Life? View Answer
Reason for Declining – I choose another company which was interviewing my at the same time. The other company dealt more with investments which I was more interested in providing.
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Orange, CA (US) Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 23, 2013
Interview Details I applied through my school's website and was contacted the next day for an interview later in that week. I went to 2 interviews, they require 3. At the 1st interview, it was basics like bragging about the company and enticing you with big salary numbers while interviewing in the super fancy Orange County high rise office. I had to take a test after the interview which determined if I would be a good sales person; there were new hires in the same room who were cussing and complaining about the job. My 2nd interview was 2 days later and went over more personality type questions and the job offer was made contingent to my background checks. I was required to do homework before my 3rd interview to determine who my "clients" would be, aka friends and family, and how I would pitch sales to them. My backgrounds started all my previous employers were contacted. My 3rd interview was scheduled for 2 days later where I would basically sign my employment paperwork but I called and canceled it. I cannot make a living off of hustling my family and friends. This position was supposed to be for a Financial Services type position, not a sales job. NYL is kind of sleezy with their pyramid schemes.
Interview Question – Who could you sell to? How can you work them to find out personal information? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – The job required you to sell to your friends and family. They don't help you get clients.

Interview Question – nothing really difficult. I asked them a question about the rention rate in this particular office. He gave me false information. he told me 40 and a former VP told me way less than that. Answer Question

Interview Details process consisted of talking to the manager initially and he gets a personal feel of the type of person that you are and he decides if he wants to go further. Initial technical piece is another phone screen to go over a few basic things like subnetting, etc. If you pass that step, you'll get your face to face interview on site and video conference with the technical folks in NY.

Interview Details I had a 30 minute phone interview with an actuarial student. Lots of behavioral questions. I thought there were some difficult ones. The first question was "Describe a project that you have completed in excel". Another question was "Describe a time when you made a popular decision that you knew was wrong". I stumbled a lot over that one, and to this day can't think of a relevant experience that fits this description from my life.
