Procurement at MSC Industrial Direct

No Offer – Reviewed May 07, 2013

Interview Details Interview process lasted a very long time, all day. The interview ran long causing me to miss my flight which I paid for myself. The interview turned out to be for a position that I was significantly overqualified for.

Interview Question – Most questions were standard. They did make you take an excel test on Excel 2003 which I hadn't used in years.   Answer Question

Government Account Manager at MSC Industrial Direct

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Melville, NY (US) – Reviewed Jan 27, 2013

Interview Details took forever from initial recruiter interview to onboarding. Several telephone interviews, two face to face, interview with local Branch manager, two more phone interviews with various managers who you NEVER saw again, one hour interview with a shrink who asked you far too many personal questions about your home life, then you flew to NY for a day filled with further grilling. DON'T SIGN THE NON-COMPETE!!!!

Interview Question – none that I really remember   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – there is no real negotiation..they throw the contract at you...you take it or leave it.

National Account Manager at MSC Industrial Direct

No Offer – Reviewed Oct 19, 2012

Interview Details Presented opportunity via outside recruiter. Fast tracked initially with a 1 1/2 hour phone interview with corporate recruiter in NY, followed by a phone interview with hiring manager. Along with online application, prior to face to face interview the applicant fills out a paper application. (Most likely to accept a background check). They do NOT drug screen. I was warned by outside recruiter that the process could take 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on schedules. Approximately 3 weeks after first contact I interviewed in person. (Business dress is expected, long with copies of resume and obviously pen and paper). It was at the person to person interview that I was told I was the first candidate of several that would be interviewed, something that my outside recruiter was unaware. I did provide a thank email / followup after the interview, which was NOT acknowledged. I was kept "in process" for another 2-3 weeks, until I challenged the outside recruiter to seek out an update. I was told, 2 months to the day of contact, that they were moving forward, which coincided with a mailed letter to that effect by the Corporate recruiter that day. Unprofessional and unnecessary process, in my opinion, given that they Corporate recruiter did not keep a supposedly "solid" candidate , and their recruiter, in the loop. It's their loss..

Interview Question – What do you have to offer in the this position.
(the outside recruiter offered a sampling of questions)

BSM at MSC Industrial Direct

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Melville, NY (US) Dec 2009 – Reviewed Oct 03, 2012

Interview Details It took about 16 interviews to land the job. They will run you through a recruiter, then screening by their HR department. From there you will meet with the Market Manager. If things go well, you will then fly to New York for more interviews.

Interview Question – The psychology test via Doctor Goldberg. You will be required to spend an hour with him on the phone.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – Rigid. The HR Department gives you a take it or leave type offer. Read the non-compete carefully as it is non-negotiable and is very restrictive. If I were to do it again. I would not sign this document.

Sales Manager at MSC Industrial Direct

No Offer – Reviewed Aug 30, 2012

Interview Details Long process, this as promised in initial contacts, but their internal confusion and promotion from within created a climate where they promised that they were going to fill the position externally, and really were only going to fill the position internally. Don't know if they were just seeking new ideas from external candidates, or if they are simply unethical. Either way , their credibility should be questioned.

Interview Question – None   Answer Question

Inside Sales at MSC Industrial Direct

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Feb 2012 – Reviewed Aug 21, 2012

Interview Details There was a four step process with personal meetings with various supervisors and day where I sat with people doing the job

Interview Question – Without knowing the intricacies of the company and job. They ask you if this is a job you see yourself doing for many years.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – The HR specialist called and asked what my salary expectations were and I told her. She did not meet those expectations but told me I could meet those soon. The market is obviously low on jobs so I believe that would dictate the offers

Telesales at MSC Industrial Direct

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Jonestown, PA (US) Jul 2008 – Reviewed Jun 05, 2012

Interview Details You had to attend a job fair first where they did the initial interview. Once they cleared you through that, you had to do a "spend a day". This consisted of 4 hours sitting with employees doing the job. That was worthless since the lady I sat with was working on a large problem that had not much to do with the position. I had to do role play with the manager and sell her something. She used items I was selling at my other job. Typical questions about background.

Interview Question – Role playing with the manager. I never did that before and had to think on my feet.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Negotiated nothing.
