Sales Associate at Guitar Center

No Offer – Interviewed in Knoxville, TN (US) Sep 2012 – Reviewed Oct 06, 2012

Interview Details I applied online, there were the typical questions as well as ones related to knowledge of gear but apparently that is not enough to get a job there. After applying there for almost 2 years and following up with applications 2-3 times I finally landed an interview. The interview was pretty normal he asked me a few questions, inquired about employment history. I don't guess I got the job, I followed up twice after my interview and was told each time that he still hasn't come to a decision, well it's been a week now and he told me has going to come to decision 5 days after so I am assuming I didn't get the position. They appear to be looking for people with straight up sales experience over knowledge of the gear, I even got that vibe whilst in the interview, despite being a paying customer and haven't outstanding knowledge of all the gear in most the departments at the store.

Interview Question – Give an example of a time where you delivered outstanding customer service.   Answer Question

Drums Sales Associate at Guitar Center

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Bakersfield, CA (US) Apr 2011 – Reviewed Sep 12, 2012

Interview Details For the Interviews I had multiple interviews that were low pressure and professional. The hiring process was very efficient and management was able to get me in the system and working in less than a week. There was a mandatory back safety course due to some of the lifting necessary for the job, but aside from that there was nothing out of the ordinary from any other hiring process I have ever been through.

Interview Question – Why do you want to work here.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation.

Interview Details I applied online and was invited to a group interview. I didn't see the email until too late and did not make the group interview. However a few weeks later, I was called to come in for a interview. It was very relaxed and I was offered the position the same day.

Interview Question – No hard questions at all, I had previous retail experience.   Answer Question

Marketing Manager at Guitar Center

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Westlake Village, Los Angeles, CA (US) Jan 2008 – Reviewed Aug 27, 2012

Interview Details I was an Assistant Manager at one of the Guitar Center stores when a position opened at corporate for which I was recommended by many people. I was told that the job was mine for the taking - I simply had to jump through the hoops of the interviews. Upon arriving at headquarters, the person interviewing me - who would be my boss - proceeded to immediately start talking down to me and began insulting my store's manager. I could not see myself working for this jackass. Upon returning home, to my amazement jackass called me with an offer - which was half the amount he had initially offered before I flew out for the interview. Worst experience of my life.

Interview Question – Why do you and the rest of your staff suck at promoting our events?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – The offer was pathetically low - and my life would have completely sucked working for such a jackass.
