Manufacturing/Maintenance Resource at Frito-Lay

No Offer – Interviewed in Casa Grande, AZ (US) Mar 2013 – Reviewed May 04, 2013

Interview Details Met a manager at the ASU career fair. Had a phone interview approximately a week later. In person interview about 10 days after that. Interview day lasted about 5 hours and consisted of a plant tour and 4 separate 30-45 minute interviews with various managers and HR. Questions were straight out of an interview book. Invited back for a job shadow a week later. Spent 8 hours following a current resource around and learning about the job. At this point I was told I was a frontrunner candidate and they just needed to run some things by HR and I would be receiving a call within a week. I thought my prospects would be good for a job offer at this point and was rather excited.

2 weeks passed and I tried emailing HR, no answer. Tried calling HR and they don't answer their phones. I left them a voice message and they could not be bothered to get back to me. I emailed the manager at the plant, and received no answer from him. Called the manager, and no answer again. I finally managed to get one of the managers I spent the day with on the phone and his tone completely changed. He acted like I was a stranger and informed me that they are not done doing interviews and to expect to hear back from them in two weeks. As of this writing it has been about a month since then and 6.5 weeks since I did my job shadow, but I am not holding out any hope. It's okay because I have managed to find a job with a better salary and MUCH better hours.

Honestly, dealing with this company has left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. I understand that companies do a lot of interviews and can't get back to every candidate. But to make me spend a full 8 hour day (unpaid) doing a job shadow and just leaving me hanging like that is so unprofessional, I wouldn't expect it from such a large, corporate company like Frito Lay. A simple rejection email or phone call would suffice, especially after spending 13 total hours of my personal time at that plant with no compensation. This was at their Casa Grande, AZ facility so it may be a localized issue. They have also taught me a lesson when dealing with future potential employers about giving out my own personal time for "job shadows". Nevertheless, Frito Lay will always be remembered in my mind as VEHEMENTLY UNPROFESSIONAL and I will never willfully choose to seek employment with them again. If this is how they treat their candidates, I don't want to imagine how they treat their employees.

Interview Question – Typical behavioral stuff. Remember respond using situation, action, response strategy. They really drive the fact that you will be working 50+ hour weeks, holidays, and possibly overnight shifts.   Answer Question

Packer at Frito-Lay

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Beloit, WI (US) – Reviewed Apr 23, 2013

Interview Details Applications are only accepted via computer/online during a very limited time. There is an initial interview and "Select Test." There is a drug test and background check that must be passed before being hired. The drug test is a hair test. They take the applicants into the production plant and let them try packing to get a feel and sight of what they'll be doing.

Interview Question – It's been too many years since I did a packer interview so I don't remember the questions but they were "basic" interview questions.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation. It is what it is. Everyone starts at the same pay rate and benefits and everyone progresses at the same rate. There is no performance bonus.

Interview Details Round robin style of interview with about 6 different types of people for about 45 min each, all of whom are very nice. Mostly behavioral questions, nothing technical.
I believe the reason I did not get offered the position was I did not act as enthusiastic as others when interviewing about what the position entailed.
Factory tour, and pizza for lunch with about 5 other people who were also doing interviews.

Interview Question – Nothing to difficult   Answer Question

Operations Resource at Frito-Lay

No Offer – Interviewed in Feb 2013 – Reviewed Apr 04, 2013

Interview Details Met at college career fair and talked with a representative for 15 minutes. Next morning I got a call setting up an interview and plant tour for the next week. Got to the plant with 16 other candidates. Had a presentation about the company and then broke off into 2 groups: one group doing interviews while the other took a tour. Spoke with 2 different managers who were going through questions in a packet and taking notes. Questions were mostly behavioral based with some questions about previous experience listed on resume.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you had to work with a difficult person.   Answer Question
