Contract Specialist at Federal Government

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Oct 01, 2012

Interview Details They asked if I was planning on going to graduate school and I said yes, I might apply to law schools or business schools. They didn't like that answer as they want you to stay for awhile.

Interview Question – So they put me in Grant Specialist instead. After a few years, recruited me to the Contracts side.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – they offered a GS 7, which was a repeat of what I'd already worked, as a Research Analyst, but I took it and went up the ranks quickly. Sometimes in the fed govt you have to take a downgrade to get into a more profitable series. Keep the long run in mind.

Network Administrator at Federal Government

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Sep 30, 2012

Interview Details Fairly Straightforward. A phone screening followed by an in-person interview. Things went quicker than I expected, including the background check.

Interview Question – They had a surprise written exam at the beginning of the in-person interview. It was lengthy but broad. 3 or 4 questions each on half a dozen topics. You didn't need to get everything correct, it was more to see if you can put together coherent answers under pressure.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was not a lot of negotiation, but I went in with a strong first request, so there didn't really need to be.
