Interview Details Initial communication via email for a phone interview. Phone interview lasted about 15 minutes. Seems like a simple fit-test to me. Then was invited for a second/final round. Was also asked to complete at 40 minute written assessment online. A very straight forward assessment. The interview consisted of two 30 minute interviews with a senior manager and a partner. They were general behavior interviews. This was followed by a 50 minute case study that was done on a laptop

Interview Question – None really, questions were very straight forward but definitely know the role ITRA plays.   Answer Question

M&A Analyst at Ernst & Young

No Offer – Interviewed in Montreal, QC Sep 2012 – Reviewed Oct 30, 2012

Interview Details I applied online but got a friend to pass my CV to the HR manager in Toronto.

She called me and we went through my experience. I had direct experience in investment banking (M&A, and private placement) so there was no real issue in connecting the dots. That's important thing, HR doesn't always do that, so guide their hand like a newborn.

After the phone interview and about, 2-5 business days later I was invited to their offices downtown. I actually was 30 minutes late due to an overrun of a meeting and traffic but I called them to let them know. They didn't care. Its important to be respectful with people's time.

Got there, two hiring managers that I would be working with directly. Make sure you have questions and not how much do you pay or bonus structure or vacation but relating to the content of the job, who will you work with, what kind of mandates will you be put on, whats the geographical focus, your expected/unexpected responsibilities, an overview of their business practice, how the market has been performing, etc etc.

They will give you a reply one to two weeks later.

Interview Question – Know your stories on how you had a challenge, what your action was, and the corresponding result.

Know valuation, when are the specific methods appropriate. Walk me through a financial model, what kind of subjects do we cover in a business plan.

Other than they that they covered my experiences, motivations, client facing ability etc.

It really wasn't hard and it was almost fun, they were good people and we simply shot the talk. Know the technical side and be comfortable with demonstrating you are knowledgeable about capital markets and its dynamics, good at developing relationships (thats their end goal for you, to be a revenue generator), strong technical skills, resilient, very hard working, dynamic/soft skills, love the thrill of the deal, a leader but can work effectively in a team, creative (deal structuring creative, wordsmith), tenacious/perseverant.

Dont worry too much, be yourself but just prepare well and everything will flow.

Staff Accountant at Ernst & Young

No Offer – Interviewed in London, ON Sep 2012 – Reviewed Oct 09, 2012

Interview Details 1. Recruiting event on my university campus in which you learn about the company and the experiences of E&Y's employees present. This was a typical networking event where you have a conversation with as many representatives as possible so you can develop rapport and hopefully make an impression on the recruitment manager and/or partner.
2. Pre-Interview Dinner: Again, here you want to build a relationship with the people of the firm with friendly conversation. Also obviously ask questions about the role you are applying for.
3.

Interview Question – No technical questions, all behavioral type questions.
1. Can you describe to me a time in which you had to deal with an angry customer?
2. Can you describe a time when a team you were apart of worked well together? Also, when the team didn't work well together.
3. What has been the hardest thing you have done in your life?

Junior Accountant at Ernst & Young

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Halifax, NS Sep 2012 – Reviewed Oct 03, 2012

Interview Details This position was a four month co-op, so the initial recruiting process began with information sessions where partners, managers, intermediates and juniors presented and were there to network following the powerpoint. Once the application was submitted, one of the managers, who I would later learn was one of the two interviewers, called and asked to me come in for an interview. The day of the interview I was greeted in the reception area by an intermediate accountant working there who was there for me to ask questions before the actual interview process. I was then guided into an office with two managers. Most of the questions they asked were about my resume or lead-offs from something I would say. The actual interview was more so conversational than behavioural, something I quite enjoyed. I was then given a tour of the office and met the hiring manager. The next week, I was contacted by a partner to extend an offer.

Interview Question – You wrote in your cover letter that you have exceptional problem solving skills, explain this with an example.   Answer Question
