Sales Associate at Dillard's

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in DFW, TX (US) – Reviewed May 01, 2013

Interview Details Gave good eye contact, sold my skills, kept focus on the questions. I basically sold my employer why she should hire ME! Advice though if you are shy, you probably at most have a slim chance at getting hired. If you are shy i might ad practice your talking skills before going for an interview on a loved one or someone who is a great listener or mentor. they expect you to Be aggressive! You are selling yourself. Be confident. The whole point is this is selling and they want you to make your numbers if they hire you.. you wont make your goals if you don't have what it takes to get them interested in what it is you are selling. You are ringing your own clients and handling their merchandise as a consultant -or -we were rude if we don't talk with them.. So if we are shy we either don't look people in the eye or have something to hide we are told., customers will think we don't care they will go to someone else-- your compettion. Its a kind of battle but getting to know who we are dealing with offers more insight to what they might be shopping for. So often we hear as associates J"ust looking 'Customers aren't just looking something brought them into Dillardsthey are not just looking.

Interview Question – Give me an example of how you helped a customer from start to finish at (name of previous job here)   Answer Question

Customer Service at Dillard's

No Offer – Interviewed in Pensacola, FL (US) – Reviewed Apr 27, 2013

Interview Details I was told of a soon to be open position by someone who already works for Dillard's. The person who told me about the position spoke to the hiring manager about 30 minutes before the following, and was told I could come down and apply.

I went in and filled out their application on their computer (took about 15 minutes, typical job personality questions and job history). When I finished, the application told me to call a number on the phone next to the computer and ask for someone to come down and talk to me. I called and was told I would have to wait thirty minutes as there were no managers (there actually was a manager there, I saw her walk in earlier and although I didn't realize she was a manager at first, she was the one I spoke to after waiting 30 minutes). So I waited 30 minutes and called back, and the person on the other line told me that she would try to send someone down. Twenty minutes later, someone rushes out and simply asks for my name, without greeting me or anything. I told her and she went to print my application (which took about 5 minutes). We went into a conference room and she started "looking over" my application. She said, "Blah, blah, blah..." while she skimmed over it. When I told her that I was referred for a specific position, she went to get the manager for that area (who was the lady I saw walking in earlier). The new manager then realized the application the other manager had printed wasn't even mine, it was for someone named "Jorge" (I'm a girl and my name sounds nothing like that, how could she mess that up?). She printed the right application and brought me to her office. We sat down and she essentially told me that she wouldn't be hiring for the position and would likely just transfer someone from another department. She didn't ask me any questions and just dismissed me.

Overall, it was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. Considering the reviews from the people who do work for Dillard's, I can imagine it is a terrible place to work.

Sales Associate at Dillard's

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Augusta, GA (US) Mar 2009 – Reviewed Apr 21, 2013

Interview Details Its been approx. 11 years since I applied, interviewed, & was hired, so many things have changed in that time frame. 1st, most applications are taken from either the store kiosks or from the company's web site. So, I initially applied using a paper application and dropped it off at the store. Then, I was called by a manager for an interview.

Interview Question – There weren't many difficult questions only somewhat about salary rates.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They started with a lower offer, but came back with a higher rate due to the past rates of pay I had.
