Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates, LLC

No Offer – Reviewed Dec 17, 2012

Interview Details First round interview was in August, with two consulting associates. They said that I would hear back from their HR dept within 2-3 weeks. 5 weeks later I heard back positively and scheduled a final round interview at their office in Boston. The final round consisted of 5 half hour interviews with two Cambridge employees. Most were Consulting Associates. The 1st was about my personal/academic experiences. The 2nd was about my work experience. The 3rd was a hypothetical client problem on risk vs return. It was not a traditional case interview but they gave me time to study the materials and then i presented to the interviewers. The 4th was a conversation about an article on asset diversification. The 5th was about Cambridge Associates and its Consulting Associate program. Afterwards, there is a 6th "interview" over lunch to see how you handle yourself in a social setting. Again they said that I would hear back 2-3 weeks later. A month passed with no word, so I sent an email to their HR dept. Their response was that they were finishing up the final round and would get back to me in a couple weeks. 3 weeks later I sent another email and got the same response. Finally 2 weeks after that, in December, I got a call from them letting me know that they were moving ahead with other candidates. Overall a good experience. I would have enjoyed working with anyone with whom I interviewed. The only negative was that their HR dept kept giving false deadlines.

Interview Question – The 3rd was a hypothetical client problem on risk vs return. It was not a traditional case interview but they gave me time to study the materials and then i presented to the interviewers. I had to look at the risk/return profiles for different asset classes, then for the different managers of the different asset classes and pick the best combination.   Answer Question

Summer Consulting Associate Internship at Cambridge Associates, LLC

No Offer – Interviewed in Singapore (Singapore) Dec 2012 – Reviewed Dec 11, 2012

Interview Details Had a phone interview with 2 consultants from the company. One of them was pretty quiet after introducing himself, while the other was the main person asking the questions. Started off with some basic interview questions you can expect, like what do you know about the company, why do you want to do financial consulting etc etc. Most of my questions were follow-up questions from my answers, so you have to be certain you know what you are talking about.

MBA Investment Consultant at Cambridge Associates, LLC

No Offer – Interviewed in Arlington, VA (US) Feb 2012 – Reviewed Nov 27, 2012

Interview Details I was invited to Cambridge offices for a first round interview, where I was met by a Senior Consultant, who began by asking whether I had any last-minute questions. We promptly moved on to a written case study interview that focused on investments. The case included all necessary text and exhibits needed to complete the questions. The topics covered in this exercise were limited to those one would over in one's first year of business school. I had 20 minutes to work on the case alone, 20 minutes for discussion with the sane Senior Consultant/Interviewee, and the remainder of the hour was a one-on-one discussion focused on my resume.

Interview Question – Why do you want to go into investment management consulting and not investment management?   Answer Question
