Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Yale University part-time for more than a year

ProsThe pay is great, the community is healthy, and the University truly cares about it's employees. President Salovey will make it an even better university.

ConsVery bureaucratic, every manager has to ask their manager before anything can get done.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive divisions more autonomy. Let those in charge, be in charge, and give them the resources they need to be successful.

ProsGreat pay, easy work. Something different every day. Once you get the hang of it you can work without constant supervision.

ConsA lot of the staff is lazy, and not everyone pulls their weight, and there really isn't much management can do about it.

Library Assistant

ProsThey are very flexible about the hours you work. The job is fairly straightforward. Very good pay for a student job.

ConsThe job gets repetitive and boring at times. There is no room for advancement really. The systems that you work with sometimes are pretty frustrating.

Great grad program

Graduate Student (Current Employee)

I have been working at Yale University full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI've really enjoyed my time here. The faculty is fantastic. I had access to all the resources I needed and there are many opportunities to collaborate. There is also a great student life program. The Yale campus is beautiful. New Haven has many great restaurants and is close to New York and Boston.

ConsNew Haven has a high crime rate, but it's manageable if you don't walk alone at night and keep valuables out of sight. Yale does have door-to-door shuttle after dark, which is helpful.
