    I have been working at Williams-Sonoma part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    All the managers at my store were truly amazing, managers at sister-store weren't as encouraging/flexible, some coworkers are disposed to team-work, amazing discounts to other stores within company, flexible hours, some customers were extremely friendly and enjoyable to work with. Managers try to make your job as easy and enjoyable as possible even with such a bureaucratic head office. Managers often recognize hard work.

    Cons

    Sales goals cause some coworkers to be overly competitive, hypocritical, condescending or simply plain rude towards coworkers. Some coworkers don't be believe in team-spirit and rather increase their personal sales at the expense of good customer service and good relations with coworkers. Corporate policies can be annoying and excessive. Corporate is very cheap (eg: no full-time sales associates, pay per minute if managers let you go home early, etc.) Very little opportunity for growth, hard work does not equal much greater salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in loyal employees (more hours, insurance, better pay, etc), avoid being so bureaucratic and inefficient, managers keep up the good work!

    Pros

    Pretty positive work experience! Coworkers were all great and friendly, no shortage of work - pretty busy during the Christmas Season, but that's to be expected.

    Cons

    Not many! I was rescheduled without being informed of the change on one occasion, that's about it. Some might find the Christmas rush stressful but the stock associates who stayed late to catch up on unpacking deliveries were well compensated.

    I worked at Williams-Sonoma part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Williams-Sonoma is the mecca when it comes to food and it does so diligently by training their staff on the how-to's. I learned so much from being there, cultivating my passion for food and what to have and what not to do.

    Food bridges the gap to communication and in turn brings forever lasting friendship.

    There is so much to learn and everything is life appropriate.

    Getting to yes is their policy and it's something unique that many companies do not do.

    Cons

    It's difficult to grow in the saturated retail world. Always look for corporate or office job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There has been great and relentless members in management. All I'll say is to "always park ones ego at the door" and never bring it to work.

    The people were wonderful to work with and the products were mostly top of the line

    The scheduling was a little unpredictable

    Pros

    Low politics between teams who focus on getting the work done, big company feel where there's good work/ life balance, great discount across suite of brands (includes Pottery Barn and West Elm)

    Cons

    Some units at leadership level are increasingly political, micromanagement of finances, cheap (no funds for trainings, celebrations), below market salaries and/or abyssmal bonuses, teams foster relationships amongst themselves but leadership doesn't have a people-focus to decision making

    Pros

    The company values and professional growth are many fold. A very supportive environment and many opportunities to grow and be rewarded.

    Cons

    High stress situations at times however advice from supervisors was helpful. Having to grasp a lot of product knowledge every few weeks could be overwhelming.

    we have a rich culture of service to our external customers and internal associates. It's possible for any associate to make a difference. Amazing products- proud to be part of the team.

    we sometimes need to slow down and listen to associates- ask them to actively be part of the solution.

    The people are great
    The management team mostly tries to make you feel good about what you do
    You're allowed to be pretty independent

    Cons

    Raises are really, really small
    Promotions basically don't happen
    Limitations on employee discount - doesn't stack with most other promotions
    Lacks a culture of cross-training, especially when you're seasonal
