I have been working at SunGard

    Pros

There are several locations if you are interested in moving (mostly in the US, but globally as well). In addition there are several 'areas of interest' within the company (Insurance, Disaster Recover, Education) and it is a large so there are lots of opportunities available.
The benefits are decent, with company contribution to group RRSP, Employee Assistance Program in addition to Health/Medical & Dental.

    Cons

Sungard grows by buying smaller companies - yet they don't seem to be very proficient at it. Back office changes are chaotic and unpredicatable, and communication is contradictory from one week to the next.
Incorrect first of the year payout, lack of ability to bring integrated staff into the online pay stub processing (the manual work around for paper copies leaves MUCH to be desired), conflicting/confusing travel coverage [for those employees that are consultants to clients]. Very disappointing for a company that grows by aquistion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Document aquisition processes & adhere to them. Have at least one 'specialist' (project/program manager) to oversee integration with milestones, targets etc to make sure that there is a single point of information flow.

    Pros

    Nice of local management team.
Many products of financial domain which can help technical engineer to learn financial business.

    Cons

It seems the cost control will be more and more important than ever.
Many product's technology are too old and company have no willing to improve it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do some real things for the engineering, they're the fundament of a IT company.

I worked at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As an organization they appear to be switching from a strategy of growth through acquisition to one of integration and business development. This is encouraging to see. Now developing core technology strategy and communicating to staff more often. Proactive management development programs. Promoting environmental awareness.

    Cons

Need less of a focus on lean management principles. Pushing a lot of work offshore which will reduce their ability to support local clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership have a clear vision and are moving towards it. The strategy change may be a little jarring for staff but I think the company will become stronger for it.

    Pros

    Smart developers

Constantly improving the release cycle and following the best practices.

Re-organization can happen frequently so this can be stressful.

Depending on the above, you can have a manager that doesn't share the same vision or ideas at all with the previous one so you will need to adapt.
