State Farm is a great company to work for.

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

State Farm treats their workers very well. The agent I worked for was very demanding but still very understanding. The office operated very well and everyone got along.

    Cons

As with all insurance, there are many unsatisfied customers that are angry when they call.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give each agency more freedom rather than strict corporate rules.

I worked at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Good work/life balance
    Caring individuals
Lots of room for advancement and job switching

    Cons

Can be too much "red tape"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please show interest in your interns. Which most of them do, just a few directors need to.

I worked at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I have no idea if all branches function the same. This one had very flexible hours, and the pay wasn't anything to complain about. Pleasant co-workers.

    Cons

Deceptive interviews. Took this over another internship, based off of the job description. They describe it as a 'marketing campaign internship', and will give you a few token projects .. but you basically spend 80% of your time cold-calling people. I found this task to be quite unpleasant, as most people don't appreciate being telemarketed to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put the sales aspect in the job description. I'm sure you can find people who will want this internship, and function better than those like me who are dissatisfied.

I worked at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

working hours revolved around my school time. Easy work. calm and tranquil environment. build a close relationship with workers. some events are fun. pay was a little above minimum but i was only a intern. great place to learn if interested in insurance

    Cons

Telemarketing is a must. Boring at times. Individuals will be rude. with out licensing you really cant do much but transfer calls, file papers, and telemarketing. since each agent sets up pay and commission it is a bit troublesome to get the pay you want.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really needs a better claims and faster response when calling headquarters. It always takes over an hour on wait time to fix problems and customers get upset.

I worked at State Farm full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great brand name equals easy reknown. Easy for people to identify with.

    Cons

If people already had a bad experience with a different agent, which there are a ton of agents then damage may be irrepairable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thin the herd of agents, push for team work, customers first, and not killing your fellow agents. Get a territory assigned demographically if already dense- spread out the offices- its rediculous!

I worked at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Overall everybody in the company was very nice. The pay is decent but not amazing as an intern. As long as you did everything you were told, you will get a returning offer from them.

    Cons

The company is very old. Many employees has been there for a long time which is good because that means there is stability in the company and people like enough to stay. However, this also means that change is hard. In a big company with a lot of older folks, it will be hard for them to accept progressive changes to the company.

Current Employee - Strategic Resources Intern in Champaign, IL (US)

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Provides a lot of training, super friendly staff, variety of projects to get different experiences

    Cons

Can get boring since it is insurance, but the company cares a lot about developing you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It can get annoying being an intern at innovation ready and knowing that it would take a significant amount of time to get our idea through with the many barriers a company as large as State Farm has.
