    Pros

    Great pay and benefits, but don't think it's long term. You'll start off much higher but in the long haul you'll make less, unless you can move up every 3 years max. don't wait longer than that. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work there, so it's a great "start out" company. They will provide a lot of training that you will eventually want to take someplace else.

    Cons

    Once you work in tobacco, in many cases when you go to move on, other companies will question your judgement due to the fact you worked for a tobacco co. It unfortunate and based on ignorance, but true. Long term growth and advancement will NOT be as fast with other CPG's if you are a result oriented hard working, innovative type person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    This is a more top down style run company versus a bottoms up company. Get in make friends and sound good and you'll do well. Used to be a very result oriented company. They do not value longer term experience due to the potential long term cost of longer term employee's. It more of a what have you done for me lately management style. Upper management rarely changes, reducing opportunity at the higher positions.

    Watch your back, senior management in information management have a problem with communicating the truth. Non transparent, the good old boy culture operating at high capacity.

    Pros

    Pay is okay for the area, decent tuition reimbursement, somewhat trying to grow and recognize change is needed, but need to actually act on the need for change!

    Cons

    Poor work environment, over worked, poor training, benefits aren't NEARLY as good as they'd like you to believe. Try to scare their employees into thinking they're the only game in town and everything is the best of the best there which isn't true!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Become aware of what your competition offers or you'll continue to lose good talent!!!

    Pros

    Good pay, benefits. People I worked with were great, fun people that worked hard and were fun to be around.

    Cons

    As described by others, the promotion game is very political. Many of the better performers have been by passed due to politics and favorites (brown-nosers) getting preferred spots. So glad I left, as I hear it is worse than ever. I worked nights, weekends and while on vacation to keep my boss happy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Realize when you hit the streets you are looking at a day that has been totally set up for your appeasement. If you want a real look at your business do something on your own.

    Great benefits: Company Car, Free Gas, Lots of Vacation, 401K Matching, Medical/Dental/Vision, Short term disability benefits, etc.

    Cons

    Company is slow to change procedures that aren't working well. The workload and expectations are totally dependent upon who your direct manager is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have HQ decision makers spend more time with TM's in order to better understand what is going on at retail.

    Pros

    Nice benefits, good consumer goods packaging training.
    Company has a premium product that sells. Territory Managers are backbone of company.

    Cons

    Deceitful managers that overwork employees. Territory Managers are responsible for visiting 600 accounts per quarter leaving very little time for personal life after spending an hour per night after sales calls to check email and company related chores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Ease up on the expectations of TMs. Make goals realistic for employees. Trust Territory Managers to do the job they were hired for as trust works both ways and you have lost it all from your Territory Managers

    Pros

    Easy Job with decent salary after you put in the time. This job is cake. You pretty much get paid decent to drive around and bs with people.Put up with management once a month and that's it.
    Pretty much have a guaranteed base bonus every year even if you half ass it.
    Company Car, benefits.

    Cons

    Management is pretty awful. They are all brainwashed into thinking an old way of thinking and they push that on everyone else. Even younger management is brainwashed into it. You will only get promoted if you are in a Urban Market.
    Management preaches 1 thing and expects another.
    They try to make the marketing and sales of tobacco products rocket science.
    No matter how much you grow you assignment and increase market share it does not matter. If you are not on the succession list you will not get a high achieves rating. Getting on succession list only happens if you are in larger market and completely suck some ass.
    Division management really is useless. I am not sure what they're roll is. It is supposed to be to develop and move reps up and ge them promoted but they all act like a babysitter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Figure it out. I mean really figure it out. Let your reps do their thing. You have hired a ton of smart outgoing fresh out of college students. Don't stifle them or keep them from using their smarts and intelligence.
    Get out of your old way of thinking. Your merchandising tactics are completely out of control. You get an inch and take a mile. You still haven't figured it out yet that merchandising does not sell your product or increase market share. It is probably the least important aspect of the tobacco industry and you treat it like it's the most important/
