    Extremely Educational

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It was extremely important to the company that their employees knew the details and stories about every product. Their training is intensive, however this allows employees to feel comfortable when interacting with customers

    Cons

I think that the focus on sales targets distracts employees on the enjoyment of working there. Sometimes it was a very stressful work environment when we were held responsible for mangers not making their targets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not to discuss their targets. A lot of the times I would hear "Hurry up and make a sale. Managers get a bonus this month if we reach our target." Managers always got their bonus, however when it was employee bonus month we never seemed to reach the target.
Management need to focus more on making the employees feel like they are working with them and not for them.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Management and associates share responsibilities. I felt like it was easy to bring issues to upper management, and that they would be taken seriously. The employee discount was also generous, considering you are able to use it on sales/clearance.

    Cons

Flex hours made it difficult to plan anything outside of work. There was also lot of pressure to have customers open a store credit card, even though the terms were not ideal.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Working for pier one was pretty great! A Sales associate worked 4 hours shifts so it was conducive to my busy school schedule

    Cons

Being a seasonal worker, however, meant you worked everything, Also, the culture of persuading every single customer to open a store card felt dishonest and exhausting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think management did a really great job of keeping the associate motivated and excited.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I love working with the customers & assisting making their homes look amazing, I love learning about the handcrafted items, love merchandising everything (literally) easy pos system ( I didn't get to do the training).

    Cons

Heavy lifting, radical hours shifts, 6am-11am or 10pm-3am, four hour shifts, little raises (mine was $0.12)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

4 hours a week is almost unemployment, too many managers per store, staff needs an app to certify time card please!

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great seasonally. Worked mostly in a stock position & was definitely accommodated by being shifted into the roles I felt suited myself. The store manager that hired me was awesome. Benefits offered to all employees. Not a lot of pressure in a retail environment, just how it should be.

    Cons

No communication of daily goals or real pressure to sell. Some employees were mediocre at best, & as long as there was a body to fill the space there was no coaching of bad behavior. At the time, the schedule system was the worst & didn't work on my mac based computer (hopefully that's remedied by now). The corporate situation was awful - district manager being rude to acting assistant store manager, telling her to not even bother to apply for the official position because she had no chance (after thinking on the fly for over a year in her acting asm role).
