    Pros

PG&E has a world class team of employees. They are some of the best engineers, project managers, analyst, and support folks in the business and working with them was a pleasure. They have a great benefits package and positions available in both major cities and beautiful wild areas in central and northern California. Pretty much anywhere you want to work within the central and northern California area has positions available.

    Cons

PG&E is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is a very expensive area to live, most of the upper management positions are located in San Francisco.

    Advice to Management

Save everyone some money and decentralize out of the Bay Area!

    Pros

Good benefits, pension plan, tuition reimbursement . Lots of opportunities to seek different positions within the company.

    Cons

Company is currently facing some challenges due to utility regulations. New Management and leadership create veryb stressful environments with unreasonable deadlines .

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect. Give credit to employees with experience . Bringing new leadership from outside with no utility experience is not the answer.

    Pros

All kinds of training, tuition reimbursements, fellowships, rotational assignments and more to further advance your career.

    Cons

The frequency with which non-core work falls in the laps of many groups makes it very difficult to deliver, especially when budgets are tight.

    Advice to Management

Continue to revisit roles and responsibilities of each group and clearly define the boundaries to avoid confusion.

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly work environment
Great location and pretty schedule with a decent pay rate.

    Cons

Too much micro managing at times with poor strategic planning
Its feels like a non profit instead of a large corporation

    Advice to Management

Management needs to know what to do with staff with respect to talent and skills.
You have a lot of talent people doing work that is beneath them.

    Pros

The people in one good reason to work here.

    Cons

Some of the management is not interested in the folks they hire but have there leads to monitor and evaluate progression which is wrong.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

A stable work enviroment, not prone to wild market swings (i.e. no surprise layoffs, etc.) Excellent work-life balance for certain positions and departments. Benefits package is top notch. Opportunities to advance from within. Many employees have been with the company for 30+ years.

    Cons

Slower than most companies to adopt change, due to entitlment mentality and regulated environment. Management by consensus slows decision making process. Believe that 80% of the companies employees are Union, which creates it unique challenges or opportunities depending your position and views.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on how to simplify process and proceedures across the board, and eliminate the amount of management layers required to make decisions (take action).
