I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Many nice people overall, mostly below senior management levels. Good presence across US. Good place to start off career at consultant level.

    Cons

Long hours expected and appreciation for sacrifices not readily acknowledged. Management seems to change strategy fairly often. Actions do not always match communications. Promotions are hard to attain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Commit to strategy (not just in words but in actions that support same strategy).

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The salary was great, they basically overpay people to do menial tasks and use their compensation as the only way to keep them in a miserable existence.

    Cons

Honestly this is the worst place I have ever worked, or heard of anyone else working. It all depends on your practice area, but the entire financial branch and all practices within it are an absolute nightmare.

Senior management cares only about client satisfaction and have dismal retention rates, people are ALWAYS quitting. In order to succeed be aware that you will be playing the political game to your very last breath, those that are promoted quickly are willing to trod on others to make their way. In terms of culture, there is none. You will be screamed at, abused, called names, asked to work 80+ hours, to cancel vacations to work, work every weekend, and nobody will care when your health fails because of it. They utilize a TON of contractors and the projects are meaningless and do not change.

It isn't a consulting firm, you will gain no real skills, it's a temp agency. The work is mind numbing and you have to be in with one or two of the "right" people to get any responsibility. Don't waste your time with a full time position here, at least the contractors make overtime. Every single project is a constant fire drill, and don't expect training or professional development as there is "no time" for such things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try listening to your employees and giving at least 10-20% of your effort to employee satisfaction. Yes, clients are important in consulting, but at the end of the day you need people to do the work.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've worked at five companies throughout my career and this is hands down the worst of them.

    Cons

    False promises from management
Did not deliver on anything promised when joining
    Terrible management with no mentorship
    Work was incredibly uninteresting
    Bonuses were a joke

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't flat out lie to people about what they will be doing and don't tell people the bonus percentages are targeted at 20%, then tell someone they are in top 3 people at their position and give them a 5% bonus, it's insulting.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you are desperate to get into consulting, then take a job here

    Cons

There is absolutely no consideration for nights, weekends, vacations. You are literally expected to be a slave. The attitude is that you should just be happy to even have a job. There is also no upward mobility. The leadership is unimpressive and uninspiring. The work is boring and monotonous. Its not really a consulting company, more of a temp agency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Empower your employees.

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Absolutely nothing positive to say about this company

    Cons

No longevity or career paths in place.
    It's all about the money
They hire people who are unqualified
They have no concept of budget and waste tons of money
They bully there employees thinking it will produce work. Then they try to build them back up by saying nice things about the work that was produced.
    They lack vision and focus.
Tons of unhappy and miserable people.
No interaction with Upper Mgmt. as it pertains to everyday employees
They use people to do their dirty work
Pay raises are based on what they want to pay with NO measuring tools in place, basically you get cost of living increases.
Never anything good to say from there employees.
People get hired or promoted based on who they know (with no experience) over other highly qualified people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You lack vision and character. Get to know the people in your company who are making you the money to pay your excessive salaries.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting

    Pros

Summer hours/activity. Great location, very smart colleagues

    Cons

    - Management makes employees feel lucky to be employed.
    - Decisions that affect employee(s) are made without any formal communication.
    - Serious lack of trust between senior management and employees.
    - People are frequently laid off with no explanation nor communication until the very moment employee is laid off.
    - Feels like your manager keeps secrets from you
    - HR protects their relationships with certain managers and cares less about resolving issues brought to their attention.
    - Managers show favoritism when it comes to performance evaluations and promotions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Where do I start...Navigant is a great company, that could see productivity increased if employees felt appreciated.
