    Pros

Great company to have on your resume. Very supportive co-workers, lots of opportunity for growth, and always something exciting to work on.

    Cons

At times I feel out of the loop on a lot of things, which makes it difficult to do my job. A few internal services don't always work, and some subscriptions literally took a year for me to receive (employee MSDN).

    Advice to Management

Keep on keeping on. The company is heading in the right direction, the values are solid, just need to keep working at it and improve the little things.

    Pros

The culture, the empowerment, the work environment, the learnings of the industry and being part of a very dynamic team, having the ability to orchestrate your own projects and making a tangible impact.

    Cons

One of the fallbacks was that some work in cross-functional settings led to increased dependability in teams that had a more laid back culture which led to unnecessary setbacks in project deadlines. Nevertheless, effective communication led to quality delivery and all was good at the end.

    Pros

Great work environment, reallocation was fully funded and visa was sponsored ( moved from NZ ).

    Cons

Minimal chance to move around as an intern (ie change projects).
However not really expected to be able to as an intern, so not so bad.

    Advice to Management

Create more internship opportunities, Microsoft was one of the best internships I've done, and would be great to see more people get the same chance I did.

  5. I was a high school intern at Microsoft, and I enjoyed working there, although I bet they threw away all our apps.

    Pros

Free drinks, the ability to brag to your friends, allows you to get better internships in college, and well... its' Microsoft!

    Cons

Kind of boring since they kind of just let you do whatever you wanted, so really... I could've just done everything at home.

    Advice to Management

I liked the internship, but maybe have a more structured internship.

    Pros

Great learning experience if you are just joining out of college. The people here have a great experience handling large software code bases, hence have a good quality code to work on.

    Cons

Not as challenging as other silicon valley companies.

    Pros

Diverse and interesting employees, collaborative environment, novel research projects, freedom to pursue research goals.

    Cons

Long hours, insufficient access to healthy food, older office cubicle environment, several layers of bureaucracy, confusing travel and research expense reimbursement,.

    Advice to Management

Closer management of project and a more in-depth understanding of employees' work would yield results faster.

    Pros

You'll find the best people working around yourself, which is the biggest motivation. Though it depends on team, in general people are given authority to take decisions. Recreational area is good, which includes TT, foosball, chess tables, and x-box with kinect. People are co-operative, help you learn.

    Cons

Though they have many projects going on, the pace of work is average. This is not to say that you won't get a lot of work, its that you won't see your deliverables go live for a long time. There are good things to learn, but not many new things to learn. You can get similar opportunities at other places too.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the good work. Try to pull some more important stuff to India office.

    Pros

Smart people all over the place. Highly used products.

    Cons

The experience is hit or miss depending on what team you are placed on and what they have you work on. 12 weeks is not a lot of time to do anything too important. But it is enough time to determine if your team is a good match for you.

    Advice to Management

MS has a lot of respect for their interns and new hires. It's a great company.
