    Pros

Decent benefits, work with lots of smart, dedicated people. It is very rewarding to help so many patients in need. TRS retirement is great benefit, if you can sick it out.

    Cons

MDAnderson, you aren't the only place in town. Get real. High level managers in it for themselves have discarded the core value: INTEGRITY. You still have many hardworking, dedicated employees to keep the place running, But even patients are noticing how you have slipped. Now it's just business. That is very sad. I am not interested in returning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrity, Caring and Teamwork has to start at the top. and be expected of ALL. You ave too many in high levels who abuse their power over others. MDAnderson, you are headed in the WRONG direction. Get your high level managers to practice what you preach and treat employees and patients right.

    Pros

I had the chance to work with smart researchers. The offices are big and quite. There is a fitness center for free for the ones who works out regularly.

    Cons

Compensation is lower than the other places. Any paperwork takes long time inside the institution. The administrative personnel is not responsive to our concerns. Had to chance to see my advisor very rarely and briefly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Correcting those: Compensation is lower than the other places. Any paperwork takes long time inside the institution. The administrative personnel is not responsive to our concerns. Had to chance to see my advisor very rarely and briefly.

    Pros

Great mission, purpose and overall effort in hiring a diverse staff.

    Cons

Great job of hiring diverse staff but limited advancement opportunities for certain individuals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify the "Behind the scene" employees and provide advancement opportunities for them while sometimes recognizing the need to overstep the limitations that maybe placed on them by the employee's immediate management...

    Pros

You get to help those in need.

    Cons

The work you do, if outstanding, will not be noticed or taken by management as they did it. Most people that don't do anything get the best reviews and those that bust their butts get written up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees about the problems they bring up and do something about it in timely manner.

Current Employee - Hard Working RN in Houston, TX (US)

    Pros

State benefits are good, teachers retirement, wonderful patients and the best cancer tx anywhere. Reseach is impressive and groundbreaking.

    Cons

Low morale and finger pointing has replaced core values caring, integrity in past few years. Very political. Be careful if you cross the wrong person. People here have long memories and hold bitter grudges. Some senior managers have a different agenda and it is all about what you do that makes them look good. Credit often goes to those who take credit for it and actually did nothing to deserve it. Blaming is often the name of the game. It is a shame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to front line employees and not just the top brass to hear what is really going on. Senior Managers need to work along side their employees some to understand what it really takes to get things done, how hard the work really is and how you expect way too much, way too often. Don't just talk about appreciation. Show it by treating employees better. Look at the great successes of more patients, more money coming in and positive treatement results, instead of reprimanding small errors that amount to a few dollars in comparison - especially when you expect perfection despite ridiculous workloads.

    Pros

Great pay, and work life balance. You can work upto 4 days per week fro home if you are not in management. Great cafeteria with good food.

    Cons

Poor management. Poor knowledge of IT. Too bureaucratic and too many meetings with no specific agenda. Managers don't work well with each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

create the bond among managers. learn the subject. No favoritism please. Set specific agenda for the meetings. Don't create too many layers of management
