ProsIf you want a good place to work with decent pay and benefits this is the place for you. You could sit here your whole life and accomplish very little in your career but you will have a paycheck.

ConsThey only promote people who have been there for years and the others are expected to wait their turn.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire people that are actually qualified to do their jobs.

Houston, TX (US)

Current Employee – been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than 10 years

ProsAmazing learning experiences in the world of cancer research and treatment. As a nurse there are a lot of different opportunities to grow. Pay and benefits are good, depending on your department. You can accrue a large amount of vacation time the longer you are employed. There is a lot of effort to provide a good work/life balance. There is currently a large full-service exercise/work out area in one of the buildings.

ConsEverything depends on how your department is managed. Some people have lost their jobs due ot poor management and budget cuts. The environment is very political as is most academic institutions. As mentioned above, the benefits are good, but most have difficutly taking their vacation time. I am leaving my position because of micromanagement and the difficulty getting time off approved. This is because of my department director's managment style. There is no other position in MD Anderson with my title and pay scale.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe in touch with your employees if yo don't want to lose the good ones.

Former Employee – worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center as a contractor for more than a year

ProsStaff is helpful and friendly. Many opportunities for career advancement due to the size of institution and diversity of jobs.

ConsVery hard to get a permanent position with MDACC by just applying online. I suggest getting a contract position with a temp agency. MDACC has alot of contract employees. Many contract employees are ultimately offered permanent positions.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe process of hiring employees needs to be quicker. It takes too long to get feedback on applications.
