Former Employee – worked at Lorillard full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – It's pretty easy. The pay is too low for the industry; but the job is fairly simple. I'm no longer at Lorillard but left on good terms to make more money. The brands are great, most people are great, and I can say that working for Lorillard as a TM has been the best job I've had (besides the low pay). For the most part, people and management at Lorillard know what they are doing.
Cons – Tough to get promoted - I thought I did a great job, but the opportunities for advancement weren't there. I worked in a rural area, so I believe they didn't want to relocate me for advancement to an urban area for fear that I would hate it and quit (which I may have done).
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your folks more. You have built a wonderful company; have some faith in developing TM's to become future leaders of your organization.

Current Employee – been working at Lorillard
Pros – The company has been in business for 250 years and has shown profit and growth during its entire tenure. It is not the biggest, but it doesn't strive to be. It is a no nonsense company that does the best it can in a challenging industry. The requirements are challenging, but not overly excessive.
Cons – The industry continues to shrink and this might limit mobility. However, the company does not "binge and purge," which means the company expansion is consistent with market conditions. The federal government will continue to have a larger role in this industry, but difficult to say how much and how that will affect employees.
Advice to Senior Management – The company must remain nimble and able to take advantage of opportunities. This can best be accomplished by remaining lean and controlling costs.

Current Employee – been working at Lorillard
Pros – Self -direction, working independently, opportunity to make excellent salary, benefits are excellent, thanks to ownership of insurance company - of couse, one arm of the company sortof creats the clientele for the other. Wonderful perks like minimum 5 weeks vacation, great retirement, company vehicle, and you can set your own schedule. If you get a good
group of people to work with - this job is wonderful.
Cons – Ladder-climbing junior management create situations and trim staff to suit their ambitions - costing the company some of its best and brightest. Also - never tell your kids what you do for a living, since they will be hounded at school
by the anti-smokers. Get use to people asking you for freebie cartons. And you mightas well take up smoking yourself, since most staff meetings are in smoke-fileld rooms.
Advice to Senior Management – Respect your staff more -trust their judgment - they are the noes in the trenches in what is a very unpopular occupation
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
