Big corporation but small business mind

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefit is decent and working hours is flexible.

ConsNot really organized. Upper management doesn't really communicate well with clients and has no business skills to run the whole projects. If you want to get some experience, it is ok place. However, not more than that. Flextronics is a manufacture company but trying to be innovative and trying to be a leader in the tech market.. However, at the end it is a manufacture company.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management should know how to run the business and give people more clear directions.

An 'Ok' Kinda Place. Don't look for a career here...

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Former Employee) Ottawa, ON

ProsGreat flexibility and benefits are pretty good. Small company attitude within a big company. From an employee point of view, most of the time it is fairly low stress.

ConsPoor management direction and communications. Management is their own little clic and mostly former Nortel (you know how well they did). Small company attitude within a big company. Office environment matches the low cost philosophy of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementEither throw away the big company attitude or embrace it. Don't leverage it when it appears to fit. Set a clear direction and go for it. Communicate openly with the employees.

    Senior Engineer position at Flextronics

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Ottawa, ON

ProsTypical flex time environment. If you enjoy engaging with various customers, then this is the company for you. Leveraging understanding of operations, design, and manufacturing can be a potential to this organization as all of these are core competencies.

ConsOld company mentality with very little new blood. A lot of this mentality is due to recent acquisition of similar firms: Nortel and Solectron. The company focus is to typically acquire companies with potential technology. There may be room to change positions, but the company operates as a small company under the umbrella of a larger organization. There is very little cross-functionality between departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn short the greatest change that Flextronics could do is invest in their own company as oppose to acquiring new technologies through M&A procedures. There is very little R&D opportunities in this organization which is a hinderance to attracting innovative talent.

    The revolving door

Technician (Former Employee) Austin, TX (US)

ProsVery competitive salary and as much overtime as you can handle.

ConsWhen times are lean and overtime is a bad word then it is time to update your resume. When the axe comes down it is swift and painless.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to keep the qualified talent and not just the "yes" people and there will be less of a let down in production when layoffs are neccessary.

    Good Place to Learn

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Johor Bahru (Malaysia)

ProsGreat learning opportunity in cost control, NPI, contract management and lean manufacturing. Opportunity to learn about new products and manufacturing methods.

ConsHave to deal with the variances in customer order fluctuations that will not help in optimizing production and inventories. Career growth limited. Frequent lay off exercises in operating and management ranks. Very long work hours.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus to enable employee commitment vs creating a high stress environment.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
