    the environment is clean and staff members are nice.

    Not only provide customer service but also have to teach customers how to use a computer/log in into their own email/how to open a file.

    Access to printing and other services while I was in college was priceless. Solid work hours and predictable schedules.

    Work is often busy and I remember working through breaks and lunches.

    Pros

    At my old store, I had a great schedule, was given tons of responsibilities, and recognition for doing them well, and made quite a bit more. Scheduling was flexible, hours were good, job was enjoyable.

    Cons

    New store is the total opposite. Schedule changes on a whim, mandatory long lunches to cut hours, full time employees get on average 34 hours. After taking a pay cut to transfer to this store, I can't afford to have my hours cut too. Management doesn't back employees up. When customers are mad about policy, managers "bend the rules" to avoid confrontation, which just makes the rest of us look untrained or rude. Training is hard to come by, and customers can be extremely needy and argumentative.

    Realize the value of your current employees, before they all decide to leave.

    Pros

    Supportive coworkers were the key pro. There are lots of people who have great skills and are eager to help other employees out.

    Cons

    We were always understaffed. This kind of job requires time to consult with customers and frequently there were 10 customers in the lobby and one employee scheduled. It was hard getting time off unless someone was willing to sacrifice their own days off to cover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    While everyone is well intentioned, there is a disconnect between what home office sees and what actually is going on in center. Home office folks should really try to see the day to day operations by coming in to centers not to judge, but to see how things actually run, especially in remote centers.
